In response to the impact that the recent COVID-19 pandemic has had on the education of students nationwide, The Bishop of Winchester Academy is looking to expand the academic support network available to all of our students. We are seeking to appoint an inspiring and motivated English Tutor committed to helping our students achieve excellence.

If you’re academically specialised in English and you’re interested in inspiring the next generation of students to study your discipline, then we’re keen to hear from you.

The Bishop of Winchester Academy is a thriving Church of England school, recognised by Ofsted as ‘improving the life chances of all [our] pupils’, and offering an ‘outstanding curriculum’ pioneered by ‘outstanding leadership’ (May 2017). Operating from recently refurbished facilities, our shared mission to improve the life chances of all of our students is at the very centre of our work.

 

The successful candidate will:

  • Have an A-Level or Degree qualification in English
  • Be organised and able to work under pressure
  • Be resourceful, innovative and able to adapt to different learning styles
  • Be able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Be confident in working with a variety of staff and students of all levels


Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting students in 1:1 or small groups for subject-specific tuition sessions
  • Working with Heads of Departments to identify and deliver appropriate interventions
  • Reporting on individual student progress to class teachers and Heads of Department

About The Bishop of Winchester Academy

The Bishop of Winchester Academy, based in Bournemouth, Dorset, is a Church of England secondary school that prides itself on its curriculum, governance and outstanding student behaviour. Students aged 11-18 experience teaching in new state-of-the-art buildings and have first-class resources at their fingertips. The school operates in an area where there are schools that select for entry on grounds of ability.

The mixed secondary school was opened in September 2010 as a sponsor-led academy. In September 2014, the Bishop of Winchester Academy extended its educational opportunities by opening its own sixth form.
