English Tutor (Graduate Level)

Full Time – Fixed Term Contract until 31.08.22

Salary Scale: £18 per hour, 5 hours a day during term time. Additional hours to be agreed during school holidays up to a maximum of £19, 000 per annum.

Oak Academy is looking to recruit a recent graduate in English to provide dedicated catch-up tuition to students on either a one-to-one basis, or in small groups. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain experience in the education sector and improve the life chances of young people.

We’re recruiting a talented graduate to support students’ recovery with both reading and more generalised literacy. You will have a direct impact on the life chances of our students – helping them to improve their skills and achieve key qualifications that open doors for future study and work.

Without GCSEs in this core subject, young people are more likely to drop out of education and are locked out of many university courses, apprenticeships, and key professions for life. In the fallout of the public health crisis, now more than ever, young people who miss out on these crucial qualifications need extra support to get their education back on track.

Having a tutor to provide tailored support and rebuild their confidence can help students close gaps in their education. One-to-one, or small group tuition is often out of reach for many young people, however these Graduate Tutor roles mean that we can provide all students with the opportunity to succeed.

Our graduate will work both during term time and during some school holidays

WHAT WE OFFER:

• The academy will work with you to ensure you have all the resources needed for delivering the programme to your students.

• We’ll provide you with expert training in how to engage and motivate your students, and tutor with impact allowing you to develop transferable skills to launch your career.

• You’ll receive ongoing support from the English and SEND departments to support you with the content and delivery of the tuition.

• You’ll gain a unique insight into tackling educational inequality while making an immediate difference to the lives of your students.

CORE REQUIREMENTS:

• Eligibility to work in the UK.

• Minimum C grade in GCSE English, Maths and Science (or equivalent).

• Minimum A-level/equivalent qualification at grade B or above in English.

• Minimum 2.2 degree in a relevant subject.

FURTHER REQUIREMENTS:

• Able to commit to delivering a minimum of 5 hours tuition a day.

• If successful, your employment will be subject to a DBS check and suitable references.

PERSONAL SPECIFICATION:

We're looking for individuals who believe in providing young people with the knowledge and skills to achieve:

• You’ll be able to demonstrate a personal interest in education, accompanied by the drive and commitment to make a difference.

• We’re looking for communicators. You’ll be able to clearly demonstrate that you are both attentive and adaptable and can convey information in a clear and engaging manner.

• You’ll be able to demonstrate that you are resilient and professional – and that you will take the role seriously and consistently do your best by the students.
