Truro and Penwith College: Space and Aerospace Skills Development Project

Truro and Penwith College is looking to recruit staff for a new project working in Cornwall’s developing Space, Satellite and Aerospace sector. Plans to establish the horizontal launch Spaceport at Newquay and the creation of a cluster of satellite technology companies of national significance make Cornwall the place to be for this emerging sector. Aerospace Cornwall, a funding body for the development of the sector in Cornwall have identified over 90 ‘space business’ or businesses that use space technology, space services, satellite data or satellite application in the county.

This project will employ a team of experts in space, aerospace and satellite technology, engineering, physics and astronomy to work with employers in Cornwall to co-create  appropriate training to support the development of the sector and ensure that there are appropriate local education pathways to careers in Space and Aerospace.

Based in the new Institute of Technology building at Truro and Penwith College’s Truro campus, the project is part-funded by the European Social Fund and has an advisory group with input from relevant bodies including: Truro and Penwith College, University of Exeter, the University of Leicester, the Open University and Goonhilly Earth Station.

The successful applicant will be required to support the Senior Curriculum Area Lead in creating and trialling new and innovative continuous professional development programmes that meet the needs of businesses and learners. You will also be required to engage with and support employers, diagnose and identify needs and skills gaps and ensure that these are met resulting in an appropriately qualified workforce.

You will be an outstanding communicator, both in writing and orally and have a proven track record in business diagnostics and developing and implementing skills improvement strategies.

Applicants should be educated to degree level and a formal teaching qualification is desirable. The ideal candidate would also have experience of curriculum development and teaching and learning strategies, as well as proven experience in business engagement activities.

You must be willing to travel throughout Cornwall and access to own transport and a full, clean driving license is essential.

This post is part-funded by the European Social Fund as part of the Meeting Smart Specialisation Business Needs through Higher Level Skills (SS HLS) project.
