We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced professional for the role of ESOL Education Advisor to deliver outstanding educational support for Bexley Looked After Children and Young People Leaving Care within the Virtual School. This is a unique role, with responsibility for leading and coordinating the statutory Personal Education Plan process for young people from age 14 to 18 and providing wider support to promote the achievement of looked after children and young people leaving care across the wider professional network, including social workers, schools and foster carers. 

The Education Advisor will be passionate about securing effective support for looked after children and young people, with specific responsibility for championing ESOL support for unaccompanied asylum-seeking young people who have English as an Additional Language. The candidate will be required to support a number of strategic service priorities and to report on their caseload and additional projects through supervision and to senior leaders within timescales. 

The successful candidate will be knowledgeable about the educational needs of looked after children and children and young people generally who have English as an Additional Language. The candidate will be skilled in being able to talk to schools and colleges about appropriate routes to assessment and support, including additional support provided within our service. This post is instrumental in helping the local authority deliver an excellent service for looked after young people, including unaccompanied asylum-seeking young people and the candidate will be able to confidently talk to young people about our aspirations for them and to professionals, partners and stakeholders about the high expectations we set for ourselves and others in order to improve educational outcomes for children and young people in our care.
