Job overview

Estate Manager

Northampton School for Boys is a heavily over-subscribed Academy for boys aged 11-18, with a mixed Sixth Form.  There are presently 1610 students on roll, of which 496 are in the Sixth Form (including 156 girls). The school runs a thriving Teacher Training Programme as well as being a strategic and delivery partner for the Northamptonshire Teaching School Hub. All aspects of the school were graded as outstanding in its latest Ofsted inspection. The school has an exceptional reputation for the breadth and depth of its extra-curricular programme and was recently ranked by a leading publication as the number one State School for Sport in Great Britain, based on competitive results. NSB enjoys similar national reputational success in dance, drama and music. The NSB Trust has also been awarded a new Free School (11-16) in Northampton by the Department for Education which is currently going through local council planning.

A vacancy has arisen for an energetic, practical skilled person to join NSB to lead a high achieving Estate Team. The team comprises of an Estate Manager, a Deputy Estate Manager and three site attendants. Some evening or weekend work may be required depending on the needs of the school.

The school sits within a fantastic Estate and benefits from outstanding accommodation due largely to the generosity of donations received from former students to the school most notably Sir Humphrey Cripps. This includes the state-of-the-art Cripps Theatre and the Edward Cripps Human Performance Centre, comprising of a 25m swimming pool and a fantastic Dance Studio and fitness suite. The upkeep of the extensive grounds is contracted out under the direction and oversight of the Estate Manager.

The school is immensely proud of its heritage and accommodation and as such this is a hugely important position in the school. Facility and people management, value for money contracting of external services and a ‘hands on’ and proactive attitude are key elements to being successful in this post. The position also entails working closely with other managers within the school, the school’s external Health & Safety consultant and the Estate, Health and Safety Committee of the Governing Body.

Prior experience of successfully managing facilities within the Education Sector would be desirable, however we welcome applications from other candidates with suitable experience in a Facilities Management role or who believe that they are ready to step up. There will be an expectation that the successful applicant will hold or will complete a NEBOSH or equivalent qualification on appointment. There may, in the future, be NSB trust wide opportunities for the successful applicant in Estate Management following successful completion of the Free School project.

Northampton School for Boys

Northampton School for Boys (NSB) is an 11-18 state funded single sex boys’ school. Girls are admitted to the Sixth Form.  The school has an illustrious heritage; founded in 1541 by Thomas Chipsey in Bridge Street, Northampton it then moved to the present site in 1911.

We ensure that all students who attend the school have the opportunity to maximise their academic potential and their talents and abilities in a vast range of activities inside and outside of the curriculum.  Our academic performance at both GCSE and at A Level is consistently outstanding and our students excel academically in comparison to all other students nationally, both in terms of progress and attainment. In sport, music and dance we compete and perform successfully at national and international level.  Recent successes include reaching the national U18 schools rugby final, winning the national U13 football cup, receiving an invitation for our Big Band to perform at the National Schools Prom at the Royal Albert Hall and a world age-group title for one of our dance teams.

Our school motto is ‘a tradition of excellence’ which was recognised in our recent full Ofsted inspection in November 2014 where we were graded as outstanding in every category, inclusive of the Sixth Form.

Our educational provision is supported by state of the art facilities for learning, sport, music, drama and dance.  This year our Science laboratories have been refurbished to provide much greater space for students and to house cutting edge equipment and we also opened in a £4.9 million Human Performance Centre, featuring a 25m length swimming pool and dance studio, in December 2014.

NSB is a Teaching School and as part of this aspect of the school’s provision there are outstanding professional development opportunities available to all teachers in the school.

The student body, the facilities and the warm, supportive environment make NSB a fantastic school in which to either start or to develop a successful teaching career.
