Northwood College has an enviable estate, occupying 12 acres in leafy Northwood and boasting a diverse portfolio of buildings and excellent sporting facilities. The School is part way through its £16m Estates’ Development Plan, with the new School of Science due to open in spring 2021 and the Sixth Form centre opening this Easter.
We are now looking for an Estates Manager to lead the Estates Team, develop the School’s facilities and deliver first class customer service to the staff body.
In consultation with the Director of Finance and Operations, you will be responsible for providing an outstanding facilities management service, ensuring the School is compliant, that all safety standards are adhered to and that the buildings, grounds and sports facilities are maintained and continuously improved. You will oversee all aspects of building and facilities management to provide a safe, secure and stimulating environment for pupils, staff and visitors.
Responsible for developing and delivering the School’s planned and reactive maintenance schedule, you will appoint, manage and hold to account contractors appointed to carry out works, ensuring that value for money is delivered and that all elements of compliance (including CDM) is met at all times. You will develop excellent working relationships with the School’s incumbent catering and cleaning contractors and be responsible for ensuring that agreed service levels are maintained.
The successful candidate will have an excellent eye for detail and will seek to deliver continuous improvements across the estate, recognising the significant impact the built environment has on the School’s stakeholders.
The successful candidate will have a good knowledge of security and emergency procedures, good maintenance and management skills and ideally a trade skill. You will have the ability to work effectively on your own initiative, but it is essential that you can collaborate with other teams. You must also possess excellent interpersonal skills.
The Estates Manager will demonstrate a professional manner, recognising the essential role the Estates Team plays in supporting the smooth running of the school day and as such this role will suit someone who is passionate about delivering excellent customer service.
The successful candidate would have ideally previously undertaken significant levels of relevant personal development, demonstrated through IWFM, NEBOSH or pool operator course qualifications. However, this is not a prerequisite as the GDST does offer significant training opportunities to its staff.
This is a full-time position, working 36 hours per week. A flexible shift pattern with early starts, and weekend/evening work is in place for all members of the Estates Team. In addition, there may occasionally be additional weekend and overtime work to accommodate the busy school calendar.
