Job overview

Exam Invigilators (Casual) £9.95 p.h. - Interviews Monday 7th February

We seek applications from those of the Catholic faith, all faiths and of no faith but who are supportive of our Christian values and ethos.

St Mary’s Catholic School are seeking to employ suitable individuals to join our team of examination invigilators. Invigilators are employed on a casual basis and work under the direction of the Examinations Officer.

Examinations (internal and external) take place throughout the academic year, including a mock examination season in December, but the main external examination season is during May and June. In addition to the examinations you will also be required to attend invigilator training sessions, usually held in November, and March, together with other mandatory school wide training sessions from time to time. These sessions will be paid at the standard hourly rate and are compulsory.

Invigilators are required to invigilate the examination and ensure that candidates conduct themselves in an appropriate manner and in line with JCQ Regulations. Invigilators ensure that the examination papers have been distributed correctly and that all materials, resources, equipment are available in the examination room. They are also responsible for ensuring that a register of candidates and a seating plan are completed for all sessions.

Examinations usually take place in morning and afternoon sessions between 8.30 a.m. and 4.30 p.m. Although not all invigilators are required for all sessions. Successful applicants will be required to be flexible within the team  to allow for the exam requirements to be met.

Working at St. Mary’s is an extraordinary opportunity.  Our Surveys this year showed that 96% of staff enjoy their work at St Marys, 97% agree that leaders do all they can to ensure a motivated and respected staff, 100% of students enjoy their learning and believe that behaviour around the school is good, and 97% of parents would recommend St. Mary’s to other parents.  We are passionately committed to developing staff and managing workload to ensure that colleagues enjoy their work and recognise St. Mary’s as an almost-uniquely positive place to teach and enjoy their careers.

Added to this, the school is also at an extremely exciting juncture in its future. We are the lead secondary school in the St Francis of Assisi Catholic Academy Trust formed on 1st September 2021. Demand is high, and owing to intense oversubscription, we will be 5 years through expansion to 6FE, with an extra-ordinary 7FE in Sept 2021.  We have also won over £7m in capital bids in the last 4 years and are enjoying brand new cutting edge facilities as a result.  The school faces an extremely strong and positive financial future.

Our previous OFSTED inspection judged us as Outstanding in every category, and our most recent S48 Inspection (2018) also judged us as Outstanding in every area.  Over the last 4 years, exam results have risen at both GCSE & A Level.  The ‘Progress 8’ score for 2018 was +0.61, which puts the school in the top 10% in the country.  At A Level the proportion of A*-B Grades as well as students enrolling at elite Russell Group Universities has risen significantly over each of the last 4 years with 2018 breaking all school records.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.  A DBS disclosure is required for all successful applicants.  St Mary’s is committed to the equality of opportunity for all applicants, and we reserve the right to interview on a rolling basis, therefore an early application is advisable.

Closing Date: Wednesday 2nd February 10 a.m.  Interviews: Monday 7th February

Welcome

St. Mary’s has a strong tradition of providing an authentic education which aims to deliver excellence for every member of our Catholic community. It is our mission to build on that tradition as we develop the school still further over the years ahead.

Our school is built upon an ambitious mission for each and every young person: to fulfil academic potential; to be fully developed in the personal, social and spiritual areas of life; to achieve excellence in every area of life; and to be underpinned by Gospel Values, enabling each person to value individuals and contribute positively to society. We work in partnership with parents and the wider community to ensure that this mission is accomplished in the lives of all our young people, and in so doing, enable those young people to live life to the full.

The aims of the school are:

• the formation of our young people according to Gospel values;
• the fulfilment of the potential of our pupils in all aspects of the curriculum;
• the personal, social and spiritual development of our pupils into responsible, generous and caring members of society;
• the achievement of all these within a culture of respect and appreciation for the worth and contribution of each member of our school and its wider community.

In 1896, five Sisters from the Belgian congregation of St Mary of Namur came to Bishop's Stortford and established a school with just 9 students.  These pioneering Sisters were the first to provide Catholic education for the district, and the school rapidly became a success. Their legacy is St Mary’s Catholic School, and as we look to the future with high expectations for continued success, their vision continues to inspire us. This is expressed in our aspiration towards academic excellence founded on Gospel values. In practical terms this also means the best possible pastoral care and guidance and the challenge and support of a broad range of spiritual opportunities which permeate through all aspects of school life.
