Job Description: Exam Invigilator

Reports to:            Exams Officer

Salary:                     £10.55 per hour

Hours:                     Casual contract; hours will be variable dependent on need


The Role

To participate in conducting external examinations for pupils, ensuring that all JCQ regulatory requirements for the conduct of examinations are strictly adhered to.

Key responsibilities

To check the examination room prior to the arrival of candidates to ensure that:

  • heating, lighting, ventilation and levels of extraneous noise are acceptable
  • no display materials that might be helpful to candidates are visible
  • a reliable clock of readable size is visible to each candidate
  • the Warning to Candidates is displayed both inside and outside the examination room
  • the Notice to Candidates is displayed in a public place outside the examination room
  • the seating arrangements prevent candidates from overseeing the work of others
  • To ensure that a signed record is kept of the seating and invigilation arrangements
  • To carry out checks on the identity of candidates on their arrival
  • To take all reasonable steps to ensure that:
    • only the official examination stationery is used by candidates
    • candidates take into the examination room only those articles, instruments or materials which are expressly permitted
    • candidates have all the necessary material to enable them to complete the examination
    • To open the packet of examination papers and issue the papers to candidates
    • To give clear instructions to candidates
    • To supervise the candidates throughout the whole time the examination is in progress, and give complete attention at all times to this duty
    • To complete the Attendance Register during the examination, in accordance with the instructions of the Awarding Body
    • To know the actions to be taken in the event of an emergency such as a fire alarm or bomb alert
    • At the end of the examination, to collect all scripts and ensure that candidates have used their correct Centre and candidate numbers
    • After collation, to ensure scripts and unused stationery are handed to the person responsible
    • To ensure that the room is left in a tidy condition.

Ark All Saints Academy is a four-form entry academy in Camberwell, south east London, which opened in 2013 as part of Ark Schools. We are a mixed Church of England school with strong values and a Christian ethos. We welcome children aged 11-16 of all faiths and none, and ask that all members of our family respect each other’s faiths and participate in all aspects of academy life.

At Ark All Saints we expect all scholars to behave well, all the time. There are no excuses for poor behaviour.

At All Saints, we have created a caring and collaborative environment throughout our school and encourage our teachers to support and help each other. We hold staff development in high regard and offer twice the standard number of training days – including our network-wide ‘Hub Days’ where peers join together to learn and share best practice. Curriculum

Our curriculum is designed back from the intended end point - enabling students to reach university. Ark All Saints Academy specialises in Mathematics and all Year 7 and 8 scholars follow the Mathematics Mastery programme. At KS3 there is a strong emphasis on the teaching of core subjects, every scholar in the school, regardless of age or ability gets at least one lesson of Maths, English and Science every day. If scholars are behind in these subjects we will give them extra time and support so that they can catch up and keep up.

Ofsted report

Ark All Saints Academy was rated as good in our 2015 Ofsted inspection with outstanding areas, such as safety and behaviour of students.

"Achievement is improving in English, mathematics, science and several other subjects. Teachers focus on scholars understanding work in depth and learning how to master problems. The provision for scholars’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development is outstanding. Citizenship days extend scholars’ horizons, their awareness of how to be safe and their understanding of British values. Scholars are happy and proud to be part of the academy ‘family’. They feel safe and secure and behave extremely well. They value the tolerance and respect promoted by all staff."
