Job overview

We are looking for personable and organised individuals to join our Exam Invigilation Team and supervise students taking both internal and external examinations throughout the school year.

You will be employed on an as-and-when basis. The hours are variable depending upon the exam timetable. Most of the exams are held in January, May and June so we ask that applicants are available for work during this period. 

Your duties could include setting-up examinations by sorting and laying out stationery, equipment, ID cards and examination scripts in accordance with JCQ (governing body for exam boards) strict procedures, directing students to their seats and advising them about possessions permitted in examination venues and reading out examination instructions.

Successful candidates will work as part of a pool of invigilators and should possess good interpersonal skills with an ability to deal with matters calmly, swiftly and firmly without being confrontational and will need to be reliable, punctual and flexible. No formal qualifications are required as full mandatory training will be provided, including comprehensive child protection training.

Welcome to Emanuel. We are a fully co-ed school of over 1000 pupils, aged 10-18, with over 200 teaching and support staff colleagues.

We are an ambitious community. This summer, 87% of grades at GCSE were awarded 9-7, which is a lift of 37% across recent years. Our A Level A*-A percentage is 53%. This is 20% higher than in 2018 and the school is now recognised as one of the best for academic outcomes in the country. The recent ISI Inspection report noted that: “Pupils make excellent progress across the range of subjects and significant value is added to their academic outcomes.”

We are committed to developing all our major sports and value pupil participation as well as team and individual achievement. The school’s critical build plan will see a significant investment in our on and off-site sports facilities across the next 3-4 years. The same site plan will support the outstanding creative and performing arts teaching at the school, as the school’s plans for a large specialist science teaching block will also allow us to improve our facilities for music and drama, both areas of traditional strength. We were delighted that these areas were recognised in last year’s Independent School of the Year Awards when we won the award for our performing arts.

Beyond the classroom, we have a thriving partnerships programme, helping to develop our pupils at all ages as they participate in this work, and benefiting the local community, with over 1000 primary school children coming to use our site and work with our pupils each month. In 2021 we won the Independent School of the Year Award for our community outreach work.
