Job overview

Health Futures UTC has vacancies for a number of Exam Invigilators. The majority of hours will be worked, as and when required, during May and June each year although there is the opportunity to assist with mock exams at other times during the year.

The invigilator plays a crucial role in the smooth running of exams. The school is seeking applicants who are calm and responsible. All exams take place within the guidelines set down by the Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ) and training will be given to the successful candidates. Preferably with an educational background or an interest in education, the successful candidates will relate positively to all learners, be extremely reliable and flexible with good verbal communication skills, and comfortable addressing large groups of students.

Examinations start at 9.00 am and would require invigilators to be on site for 8.30 am. Afternoon examinations commence at 1.30 pm so invigilators need to be on site by 1.00 pm.

All staff are responsible for the welfare and safeguarding of our pupils, therefore, this post is subject to enhanced DBS and prohibition checks.

Health Futures University Technical College (UTC) is a mixed, non-selective, non-denominational, 14-19 secondary school, situated in West Bromwich in the West Midlands. The school has formed a unique partnership with 20 health, education and public sector organisations from across the West Midlands to enable it to combine national qualification teaching with hands-on project learning with healthcare professionals.

Health Futures UTC, the first UTC in the UK with healthcare and health sciences as its specialism, opened in September 2015 in a brand new multi-million pound building. Over 250 regional students interested in careers in healthcare and health science sectors joined Health Futures for the first time. The school is now accepting applications from young people living in Birmingham, Sandwell, Wolverhampton, Dudley, Walsall, Solihull and North Worcestershire who would like to join as Year 10 or Year 12 students.

Values and vision

The curriculum at Health Futures UTC focuses on healthcare and science but strongly embraces English, Maths and Science and requires students to study these subjects. These subjects are combined with practical and technical qualifications to ensure transferable learning into the world of work and further education. Students also have the opportunity to develop business, technology, enterprise, financial and management skills.

Health Futures UTC believes that children flourish when encouraged to explore and express the wide range of ideas and possibilities that occur to young minds. It believes they are known to especially benefit from creative learning and collaborative working at a young age. The UTC approach to education reflects these philosophies and taps into the imagination and inventiveness often found in younger learners.
