Job overview

Queen’s Gate is a happy, bustling GSA day school for girls aged 4 –18 situated in South Kensington, easily accessible by public transport. Our school is characterised by a warm, welcoming atmosphere, the richness of international diversity and a keenness for all to reach beyond their potential.

We wish to appoint from May 2023 a number of invigilators to assist with the running of public examinations this summer. The work will involve supporting the Exams Officer in administering the examinations – distributing materials, supervising pupils, keeping records (e.g. of attendance) and supporting any girl who needs assistance during an examination.

Examinations will take place in the mornings and afternoons, with the length of sessions varying depending on the paper. For morning sessions invigilators would be required from around 8.00am until the exam finishes (between 11.00am and 1.00pm). For afternoon sessions, invigilators would be required from around 12.30pm until the exam finishes (between 3.30pm and 5.30pm).

No formal qualifications are required, and the role would suit those looking for flexible work. Full training would be provided on both examination processes and safeguarding arrangements. Invigilators will be welcome to join us for lunch on the days when they are working.

An application form and further details may be downloaded from our website www.queensgate.org.uk. When completed, the application form should be sent by email to recruitment@queensgate.org.uk together with a covering letter to the Principal, to arrive no later than Friday, 24 March 2023.

Queen's Gate is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. The School is therefore permitted to ask shortlisted applicants to declare all convictions and cautions on a self-declaration form in advance of attending an interview (including those which are "spent" unless they are "protected" under the Disclosure and Barring Service(“DBS”) filtering rules) in order to assess their suitability to work with children.

The School may carry out online searches on shortlisted applicants, for which all such applicants will be required to provide details of their online profile, including social media accounts, as part of their application.

Prior to employment commencing, successful applicants will be required to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the (“DBS”).

Successful applicants will also be required to produce evidence of qualifications, identity, and the right to work in the UK. Two references will be taken up, one of which will be with the most recent employer. They will also be required to complete our Health Questionnaire.

All those working at Queen’s Gate share in our responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of the children and young people in our care. This will include completing regular training and maintaining a good awareness of key policies and procedures relating to our safeguarding duties. Where a role has specific or additional responsibilities in relation to safeguarding, this will be detailed within the job description.
