The Opportunity

Winchester College seeks a meticulous Examinations Officer to manage the smooth running of all examinations. This key role is supported by a dedicated team, including an Exams Administrator, iSAMS Data Manager, and a pool of external invigilators.

Role and Responsibilities:

The Examinations Officer oversees the organisation and running of (I)GCSE, A-level, and internal school examinations. They are the primary point of contact between the school and Examination Boards, acting as a conduit between Heads of Department and the Boards. Reports to the Deputy Director of Studies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage external exam administration according to awarding body rules.
  • Ensure compliance with exam board regulations and maintain exam security.
  • Act as the main point of contact for exam-related matters.
  • Liaise with stakeholders to ensure processes are followed and deadlines met.
  • Ensure exams are conducted according to regulations.
  • Proactively prevent malpractice among students and staff.

 Before Examinations:

  • Planning: Maintain and develop iSAMS systems; research qualifications and assessment methods; comply with regulations; manage time effectively; communicate deadlines; brief stakeholders; support inspections; manage confidential materials; contribute to exam policies; support SEN access arrangements.
  • Entries: Observe awarding body terms; register candidates; gather entry information; maintain candidate identifiers; verify identities; manage fees; submit transfer applications; monitor entries and submit changes.
  • Pre-exams: Recruit, train, and manage invigilators; manage timetabling, rooming, seating, resourcing, and invigilation; resolve timetable clashes; notify candidates of exam details; inform candidates of regulations; support SEN access arrangements; manage secure storage and dispatch of scripts.

During Examinations:

  • Exam Time: Manage the conduct of exams; prepare exam accommodation; inform JCQ of alternative sites; train invigilators; manage irregularities; investigate malpractice; manage emergency access arrangements; maintain confidentiality; submit follow-up reports.

After Examinations:

  • Results and Post-Results: Inform stakeholders of processes and deadlines; manage results release and distribution; use IT systems to manage results; understand results indicators; oversee reviews and appeals; administer post-results services; manage exam certificates.

  • Essential: Reliable, accurate, organized, detail-oriented, helpful, decisive, calm under pressure, interested in working with young people, able to prioritize, committed to pastoral values, strong relationship builder, emotionally intelligent, committed to inclusivity, respects confidentiality.
  • Desirable: Initiative, desire for professional development, degree or relevant experience, iSAMS knowledge, understanding of the educational environment.

Situated in Hampshire, Winchester College is an independent, secondary school for pupils aged between 13 and 18. The school was founded in 1382 by the Bishop of Winchester, William of Wykeham. It was expanded in the 19th Century to accommodate the popular demand in the local society. At the moment, there are over 700 pupils enrolled at the boarding school.
