Key responsibilities
• To conduct examinations in accordance with the instructions and regulations issued by
the awarding body and school.
• To play a key role in upholding the integrity of the examination and assessment
process.
• To ensure that all exam materials are kept secure and confidentiality of information is
maintained before, during and after exams.
Specific tasks
Before exams
• To attend all training/briefing sessions and be fully up-to-date with the expectations of
the exams processes.
• Ensure exam rooms are set out according to the instructions.
• Admit candidates into exam rooms, identify and seat them appropriately and issue
instructions or guidance as required.
• Distribute exam materials and question papers.
• Notify the Lead Invigilator if a candidate is absent or late for an exam.
During exams
• Supervise candidates during exams to ensure that silence is maintained and that the
exams are conducted in accordance with the regulations.
• Being vigilant and attentive at all times.
• On some occasions oversee the start and end of the examinations, including giving
time reminders to candidates and ensuring that extra-time candidates receive the
correct time allowance.
• Deal with any emergencies or irregularities effectively and record any incidents or
disruption.
• Deal with candidate questions in line with the regulations.
• If required, facilitate access arrangements for candidates e.g. act as a reader or scribe.
After exams
• Instruct candidates in finishing their exams and collect all papers and materials.
• Dismiss candidates in an orderly fashion from the exam room.
• Check the names on scripts match the details on the attendance register and securely
return all scripts to the Lead Invigilator.
• If required, supervise exam timetable clash candidates between exam sessions.
The 2023 exam periods are:
19th - 26th April
9th May - 27th June
