Job overview

We are looking for invigilators to join us at HWSF for exams in January-February and May-July 2022. The prime role of invigilators will be to supervise the conduct of students in examinations. This will involve supervising students in the examination room under the direction of the Lead Invigilator responsible for that exam; invigilators are line managed by the Examinations Officer.

About Us

Harris Westminster Sixth Form combines the energy of brilliant young people from across London’s diverse neighbourhoods, the strength of Westminster School in teaching academically able students, and the Harris Federation’s experience and expertise in running outstanding maintained sector schools. This sixth form is a unique collaboration between two champions of UK Education; the Harris Federation and Westminster School. It is over-subscribed, academically selective and has incredible diversity in its student cohort with no ethnic group exceeding 20% and 40% of students having received Pupil Premium. 70% of HWSF students go on to study at Russell Group universities and we have one of the largest Oxbridge cohorts of any school (state or private). 25 students from the 2019 cohort gained places and 45 have offers to join them in 2020. We are looking for outstanding individuals to join this exciting, scholarly, and vibrant community.

Academy Ethos

Ambition. Perseverance. Legacy. Kindness. Scholarship.

Harris Westminster students expect great things of themselves; they aim high and meet their targets, gaining places on the most competitive university course and apprenticeships, and from those courses into elite careers. They work hard to reach their ambitions and learn that setbacks are reasons to review strategy and try again rather than give up. They aim to make their mark on the world for the long term and learn that they can have a positive and lasting impact. Students from different backgrounds, cultures, and lifestyles work together and listen to each other to understand more deeply how these differences affect our experiences, to overcome prejudices and create a more equal society. During their time at the school they develop a love of learning and acquire the habits of enquiry, knowledge acquisition, and scholarship.

Main Areas of Responsibility

  • Assisting with distribution of examination materials prior to candidates entering the examination room and the collecting and checking of scripts after the exam; ensuring that candidates enter and leave the exam room appropriately.
  • Assisting the Chief Invigilator / Exams Officer in ensuring that the examination is completed within the regulations and that the conduct of students conforms to expectations
  • Starting and finishing exams according to JCQ and exam board specifications
  • To report and record any relevant incidents or issues.
  • Under the direction of Examination Officer (or delegated individual), such other tasks that may be required to further the efficient running of the Sixth Form, commensurate with the level of the post holder

Academy Ethos

Ambition. Perseverance. Legacy. After two years of outstanding education and personal development our students will not just be ready to face the world but to change it.

Ambition: Our students will have high expectations of themselves. They will believe in their own abilities and in their capacity to learn, developing new skills and knowledge. They will be unafraid of competition, seeking out new challenges and collaborating successfully to meet them. Their long term goals will be stretching and exciting and they will know how to take the next step on the road to meeting them.

Perseverance: Our students will understand the value of hard work and will be able to concentrate on medium and long term goals. They will not be dismayed by mistakes but will learn from them and seek opportunities to use their learning. They will use different approaches to solve problems and will not give up if they don’t succeed at the first attempt. They will encourage each other and accept encouragement: they will celebrate not just their own successes but those of their peers.

Legacy: Our students will have a strong moral code and a desire to help others.  They will understand the impact that their words and actions have and make their choices accordingly. They will learn about cultures and groups other than their own and will be interested in the ideas of others. They will have the courage to stand up for what is right even when it is difficult and leave enterprises of all kinds and scales better for their involvement.
