Job overview

Our College

MPW Cambridge was founded in 1987 and is part of the MPW group of independent fifth and sixth form colleges. Our college is situated in attractive Victorian premises on the south side of Cambridge city centre with around 220 term-time GCSE and A level students on roll each year. We offer a broad range of subjects and have a tradition of expertise in intensive, exam-oriented courses. At our most recent Ofsted inspection in November 2019, MPW Cambridge was rated “outstanding” in all assessment areas. In Autumn 2019 the Department of Education ranked MPW Cambridge in the top 1% of all schools offering A levels in the UK for student progression, coming 26th out of over 2700 schools. Taking out schools that only sit fewer than 30 A level exams each year puts us in 8th position.

Our Curriculum

We pride ourselves on being able to offer a flexible curriculum to suit students requiring one- and two-year GCSE and A level programmes with regular testing, a maximum class size of 9 students and an outstanding pastoral system to support students and teachers alike.

The Position

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic Exams Officer to organise and take responsibility for all aspects of the external exam process, ideally to start in  August 2022 although this is not a prerequisite. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate a strong understanding of exam boards and the A level/GCSE systems, having worked  in a secondary school/sixth form college setting. This is a term-time only role plus an additional four weeks outside of term-time. Previous applicants need not apply.

• Located 5 minutes from the heart of Cambridge’s historic city centre and 8 minutes from the train station.

• Potential for career progression and personal development

• Life assurance, income protection, annual season ticket loans, employee-employer (4% + 3%) contribution pension scheme, fees remission for children attending MPW, free access to Cambridge Botanical Gardens

Application Deadline: Friday 15 July 2022

Values and Vision

Mander Portman Woodward Cambridge and its two partner schools are educational environments with the main aim of equipping fifth and sixth form students to get into the UK’s top universities. It is a place with a friendly and thriving atmosphere and a culture of enjoying hard work and achieving success. An out-of-classroom informality contrasting with the intensive teaching approach of the classroom makes sure that all students are comfortable learning at the school and reaching high levels of success in the process.

Ofsted

“The college’s leaders and governors have maintained the high standards achieved at the time of the previous inspection. This is due to their high expectations and the excellent care, guidance and support they offer to pupils. The quality of teaching is outstanding because it takes account of the needs of individual pupils exceptionally well and ensures that they make strong progress.”
