Purpose

· The Executive Director of Business Development, Apprenticeships and Future Skills will be a member of the Senior Leadership Team. The Executive Director will have strategic responsibility for developing relationships with local, regional, and national employers; the growth of the apprenticeships offering by creating and developing new market opportunities and propositions and the strategic development of our college offer to meet the future skills needs of the economy.

· To ensure the college is well positioned to respond to the challenges and opportunities outlined in the FE Skills Bill, by engaging effectively with key stakeholders across Greater Manchester to build meaningful partnerships and collaboration that informs curriculum and resources – both people & infrastructure.

· To develop a skills plan that addresses local skills, regional priorities, and sustainability, via collaboration, intelligence, data and LMI (Labour Market Information).

· Lead the development and delivery of the College’s apprenticeship curriculum ensuring that the apprenticeship offer is broad, comprehensive, allows progression and is of high quality with high levels of employer satisfaction.

· To embed the EIF framework for apprenticeships provision ensuring understanding of statutory requirements relating to governors, employers, and local boards (LSIPS)

· Provide outstanding leadership and management to their direct reports and teams. The Executive Director of Business Development, Apprenticeships and Future Skills will ensure that challenging targets are set in line with the college strategy and performance is managed to ensure optimum effectiveness in all areas under the control of this post.

Duties

1. To develop skills & engagement strategies that complement existing work based and apprenticeship training routes.

2. Line manage the Director of Apprenticeships & Director of Employer Partnerships & Adult Skills including the development and monitoring of key performance targets to continually improve quality of provision.

3. To contribute to curriculum planning process, ensuring the offer aligns to employment and careers that meet current and future skills need of the borough, region and national.

4. To develop and foster strategic relationships with employers and stakeholders.

5. Develop and enhance relationships with local business and industry to help inform, design and contribute to the cross-college curriculum offer.

6. To engage with employer forums for key sectors in the locality and region.

7. To maximise opportunities for apprenticeship growth and commercial income generation.

8. To identify additional funding routes and contribute to any subsequent bids and tenders.

9. To ensure Apprenticeship & Adult provision is compliant with ESFA funding guidance and regional adult funding requirements.

10. Ensure the curriculum offer and services for students are delivered in a cost and resource efficient manner, ensuring strong overall financial performance is maintained across the college.

11. Develop highly effective links with partners and stakeholders, providing high level account management for large contracts and employers.

Hopwood Hall College is a further education college located in Rochdale, Greater Manchester. The college was first established in 1992, and since its founding has seen extensive redevelopment and modernisation, including the installation of a brand-new technology centre in 2012 which provides facilities for studying motor vehicle maintenance, engineering and brickwork. Although the college had previously contained its own sixth form centre, since 2010 Hopwood Hall has concentrated solely on vocational qualifications for school leavers, along with its extensive adult-education programmes. The college occupies two main sites, located close by to each other in Greater Manchester, each providing a range of high-quality teaching facilities.

Values and Vision

Hopwood Hall College offers a huge range of subjects from entry-level courses up to foundation degrees, with part-time provision available for adult students looking to pursue their qualifications while working. In terms of younger students, Hopwood Hall begins accepting students at age 14, providing entry-level vocational qualifications and, potentially, apprenticeships for Key Stage 4 pupils looking to study outside of school. We have a purpose-built Salon, Restaurant and Technology Centre as well as extensive Sports and Animal Care facilities. Outside of study, the college also works hard to foster a sense of community among its students, playing host to a range of recreational common areas for students to relax and socialise.

“Leaders and senior managers have re-focused the college’s community learning provision. They have established good links with community groups to engage with learners who have not participated in education and training for some time. These learners benefit from the development of their essential English and mathematical skills, including English for speakers of other languages; they are progressing to further study and/or employment.”
