The Lion Academy Trust and Lion Education Trust are non-profit making educational charities, with over twenty years of experience in running schools in London, Essex and more recently in Northants. The Trusts comprise of nine primary sector schools and in addition to these, the DFE has granted the establishment of a new build in Waltham Forest, for a Secondary Free School which is scheduled to open in September 2020.

The Lion Academy Trust is looking for an exceptional leader who is a dynamic, ambitious, committed and enthusiastic. The successful candidate will proactively demonstrate the necessary skills and inspire staff.  You will be based at and Lead Ruskin Junior in Wellingborough whilst supporting the Wellingborough hub which includes Olympic Primary and Warwick Academy on their journeys to become outstanding schools. 

The successful candidate will also work closely as part of the Trust Executive Team to move our schools forward, ensuring that our pupils have the best possible academic and school experience.   

The Trusts exist to support and assist schools to build upon their present strengths and to achieve rapid educational transformation. Our membership comprises of both traditionally sponsored academies and schools that have chosen to convert to academy status.  

We have secured elite partnerships with specialist groups and private sector companies to support the vision and principles of the Trust. The Institute of Education has recently awarded LAT the Professional Development Gold Award, which recognises the trust as an outstanding practitioner for professional development.  

We have developed a bespoke CPD programme for teaching and support staff and currently deliver training at all career stages. We run a series of internal networks including NQTs, subject, EYFS SEN and Inclusion leaders.  Alongside our internal programmes we also facilitate and host licensed national programmes such as National Professional Qualification for Senior Leaders, Middle Leaders and Head Teachers.

Through a range of low cost central services to our academies we achieve significant savings, which are invested back into teaching and learning. The Executives Forum, comprises of all Executive Heads, Heads of Schools and works alongside the CEO and Director of Schools as the key decision making group for the Trusts. We have secured a number of high profile senior executive advisors who support schools with specific development projects and monitor impact outcomes.

LAT has high expectations and engages ambitious and hardworking staff and above all, happy and enthusiastic children with a thirst for learning which is ‘good or better, everyday’.

Ruskin Academy is a three-form-entry, fully inclusive junior school situated in Wellingborough.

The school currently comprises: a Head of School (Mr Oswald), two Assistant Heads of School (Mr Speight & Mr Morris). We have an impressive capacity to continue improving and wish to engage new staff members to help compliment the team.

Following a recent Ofsted Inspection in January 2023, the school was awarded a very well deserved Good rating with two elements of outstanding.
