Job overview

“Learners with complex and diverse needs make outstanding progress, academically and socially, from their various starting points”. (Ofsted 2016)

Due to the retirement of our current Executive Headteacher, we are looking for an inspirational leader who will uphold our Outstanding standards and move our organisation forward in the next exciting phase of our development in newly expanded buildings.

Downs View is made up of Downs View School, Downs View Link College and Downs View Life Skills College, supporting over 200 children and young people with a diverse range of learning difficulties and disabilities aged between 2 and 25. We are looking for an Executive Headteacher who will inspire our school community and continue to develop the high quality of education within our complex and expanding multi-site provision.

Our new Executive Headteacher will:

  • Provide clear vision, leadership and direction
  • Continue to build on our already outstanding standards across all sites, ensuring each individual learner achieves their full potential in a safe, stimulating and engaging environment
  • Continue our work on the inclusion agenda, supporting mainstream colleagues to meet the needs of learners with special educational needs and disabilities
  • Ensure we offer a broad, rich and aspirational curriculum to meet the needs of our different cohorts.

We will ask for openness and honesty in your approach. In return, we will support and encourage you to achieve and develop as an individual. We hope this advert has inspired you. If so, we look forward to hearing from you.

The Governors and Trustees strongly encourage you to contact Adrian Carver, our current Executive Headteacher, for an informal discussion about the role and to arrange a visit. Adrian can be contacted via his PA, Sam Hendy (samanthahendy@downsview.brighton-hove.sch.uk)
