Job overview

Achieving in faith, with love, as a community

St Michael’s is a unique Catholic School in Buckinghamshire, comprising of two campuses: one all through school in High Wycombe and a new secondary Campus in Aylesbury.

In the last five years, St Michael's has gone from strength to strength, both in terms of its outstanding outcomes and in developing a satellite campus in Aylesbury, to provide a Catholic secondary school for the town and its surrounding areas.

St Michael’s was formed through the amalgamation of St. Augustine’s Primary School and St. Bernard’s Catholic School in 2012. The Wycombe Campus now offers a Catholic education from Nursery to Sixth Form. There are currently 1240 pupils attending the All Through provision at the Wycombe Campus. In September 2018, the Aylesbury Campus opened in temporary accommodation for 120 year 7 pupils. In 2019 they moved to their new permanent home on Weedon Road and were joined by 150 new year 7’s, rising to 180 year 7’s in 2020.

We are proud of our success, as a learning community inspired by gospel values and of our reputation for providing an exceptional education, within a happy and caring environment. This is built firmly upon a belief in the importance of nurturing a strong partnership between home, school, and Church underpinned by a tradition of very high expectations for all our students.

The Governors are seeking to appoint a leader to continue the inspirational work and to take the school to greater heights. This is a fantastic opportunity to build on the solid foundations of high achievement and aspiration. We are proud of our school but recognise that we cannot afford to be complacent.

We acknowledge the tremendous talent of our staff in being creative, innovative, and supportive to get the most out of our students.  We are seeking an inspirational, consultative leader who will harness this energy and drive and take the school to the next level.

• Commitment to developing and celebrating the Catholic life of the school.

• A proven track record of successful school leadership at Headteacher/Principal level.

• A thorough understanding of innovative educational developments.

• A clear understanding of strategic and financial management.

• A proven track record of raising standards in teaching and learning, leading to measurable whole school improvements, within a consistent, caring, accountable ethos.

Values and vision

St Michael’s Catholic School educates its students through the teachings of Christ. The school believes in developing students' spirituality and faith to prepare them for adult life. It also aims to ensure pupils have respect for one another. By praying regularly and worshipping as a collective, children are able to develop a better understanding of the themes throughout the liturgical year.

Ofsted report

“Teaching is usually good and some is outstanding. Teachers have good subject knowledge, present introductions clearly to classes and support students well with their learning. Teachers check on learning regularly in lessons and adapt activities where necessary so progress remains good. Students have positive attitudes to learning and behave well around the school. They say they feel safe in the school and they have a good awareness of how to keep themselves safe in different situations. The proportion of students who achieved five A* to G grades at GCSE has been above the national average for the last three years, with all students achieving at least five qualifications in 2013.”
