Job overview

“Love, laugh, live, learn”

The Wolds Federation is a group of three small rural Church of England schools set in the heart of the Yorkshire Wolds. Our schools have a strong Christian ethos with shared values. Yet, each school proudly keeps its individual identity, characteristics and traditions whilst benefiting from many joint enterprises.

Beswick and Watton CE Primary School NOR 23
Bishop Wilton CE Primary School NOR 35 + 8 nursery
Middleton on the Wolds CE Primary School NOR 76 + 15 nursery

We have the advantage of three Heads of School, Advanced Skills Business Manager, SenCo, Higher Level Teaching Assistant, Music Teacher and Sports Coach (employed using sports premium), all of whom work collaboratively across the schools sharing best practice, resources, visits, planning and policies.

The governors, staff and pupils of The Wolds Federation are seeking to appoint an inspirational, dynamic and focused executive headteacher who:

  • has a vision to inspire and to maintain the progress towards excellence that is already evident in the three schools.
  • has senior leadership experience, preferably as a headteacher or deputy headteacher.
  • is compassionate, values our families and children individually, and is committed to helping them achieve their potential in the context of our core Christian values.
  • is able to work closely in partnership with a team of enthusiastic and dedicated staff, supportive governors and parents.

The ‘face of the federation’, you must be a strategic thinker who can communicate and influence across a wide range of audiences. A motivator and leader, you must have capability and creativity to build and strengthen teams and achieve the vision of the federation.

The successful applicant will be offered an induction programme from the Improvement and Learning Service in conjunction with East Riding of Yorkshire Council and Diocese of York.

The federation is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults. Appointment to the post is subject to an enhanced DBS check. East Riding of Yorkshire Council is pursuing equality of opportunity in employment.

In 2007 Middleton on the Wolds C of E Primary School federated with another rural school. Beswick and Watton C of E Primary School located six miles away.

When the two schools entered this formal partnership, some people outside our community had a pre-conceived concept that this was just a “money saving” venture, but those within our community especially parents knew we were striving for so much more.

We needed a way of raising educational standards against a background of budget cuts, falling birth rates and possible school closures.

We also needed to be sustainable.

We discovered that in federation we have had an opportunity to consider what we’ve wanted to achieve through partnership and those goals of higher standards, joint staff development, shared resources, economies of scale and sustainability have been achieved.

Throughout this time we have sought to retain the ethos and individual character of each school at the heart of the community.

Betty Lowe – Foundation Governor.
