Job overview

Carlton & Faceby and Bilsdale C.E are happy, caring and supportive primary schools with an incredible warmth and a welcoming family atmosphere. We provide nurturing environments, based on Christian values, where all individuals are treated with fairness, respect and equality and where the interests of our pupils are paramount. Our pupils are well behaved, respectful and accepting of each other.

We are a friendly, welcoming, child-centred, Church of England federation of two primary schools situated between the picturesque villages of Carlton in Cleveland and Chop Gate, 6 miles from the cobbled high street of Stokesley. Perfectly nestled at the foot of the stunning North York Moors National Park, the villages offer the ideal blend of rural village life - a small, close community which is very open and embracing of new people. but is also with easy access to larger nearby towns and within a workable commute from cities such as York, Leeds, Newcastle and Sunderland. The schools work closely with their communities and each is promoted to ensure it remains visibly high and attractive to parents.

Our schools are focused on the development of the whole child, enabling each pupil to feel cherished and challenged to fulfil their potential in relation to academic and personal development within a supportive, Christian, family orientated environments where everyone cares for the well-being of each individual in their community.

Your remit will be to raise standards by developing the federation and partnership across our schools and with their wider communities. You will also ensure our schools continue to challenge themselves in all aspects of school life, ensuring that pupil outcomes are maximised.

Our Opportunity

This is a rewarding Executive Headship; you will be able to lead our rural schools on to the next stages of their journeys and understand what their journeys might look like.

You will have the opportunity to develop and implement effective strategies, raise standards and continually improve pupil attainment and progress. With a meticulous eye for detail, you must be able to support the diverse needs of pupils and the provision that each individual requires, whilst maintaining the ability to balance budgetary constraints.

You must exhibit confidence, empathy and a clear focus on continuing to build a healthy workplace culture to benefit the wellbeing of staff and pupils.

The new Executive Headteacher will be expected to fulfil 0.2FTE teaching commitment so will need to work flexibly and adapt to support the staff which we mainly envisaged would be used covering the bulk of the teachers’ PD time and would enable the Executive head to gain first-hand knowledge of the grassroots classroom environment.

In particular, we are looking for an Executive Headteacher who;

  • Possesses the experience, motivation and resilience to move us forwards and embrace any further challenges.
  • Understands the significance that thriving schools can be the beating heart of a rural community and that their success or otherwise affects the wider community.
  • Is an inspirational leader who is committed to delivering the schools’ vision for the children, staff and communities we serve.
  • Understands the challenges and opportunities that working within a federation can bring to the schools.
  • Is aware of their responsibility as Executive Headteacher of Church of England schools, to maintain the faith commitment and their caring and nurturing environments while continuing to improve our drive to achieve excellent results above the national average while nurturing well-rounded happy children.
  • Has the ability to keenly observe progress across all age groups and abilities and intervene as soon as gaps or anomalies appear.
  • Possesses the experience to improve data management and to restore the numbers on roll to an optimum level. Understand budget creation and management.
  • Have strong leadership and the ability to develop the school team, to be their best and to work together as one team for the benefit of the children and whilst still keeping a strong bond as a staff team within the schools and having the ability to challenge robustly and constructively.
  • Develop the senior leadership team across the federation to secure leadership capacity for the future.
  • Leads by example, actively modelling and embedding into all areas of school life, the Christian vision and core Christian values of the schools to ensure school life, in all its fullness is offered to for all.
  • Promotes and enhances the wellbeing of the team, developing a distributed leadership, nurturing opportunities for all staff to learn and grow to their full potential.

We can offer you:

  • An excellent opportunity to provide strategic leadership and direction while building upon the high standards already in place.
  • An opportunity to see the huge potential that exists and the time to make our schools outstanding in primary education.
  • Happy, caring and supportive schools, with well-behaved children who respect each other and have a thirst for learning.
  • Governing Body that is committed to providing support on all matters including more sensitive or difficult issues - this includes the wellbeing of all staff members – and who are experienced, committed and passionate about our schools and ensuring our children reach their potential.
  • Support from the Local Authority, Diocese of York, and a dedicated staff team. Pastoral support from Parish clergy.
  • An ambitious curriculum, which aims to give every child a love for learning and enriching opportunities.

If you feel ready to be our next Executive Headteacher and you can bring your experience, enthusiasm, commitment and energy to deliver our vision for our delightful children and motivated staff, we would love to hear from you.

About us:
Both schools in our confederation were included in OFSTED'S list of Highly Successful schools and colleges.  Only 13 schools and colleges in North Yorkshire were recognised, our confederation made up two of these!

Our Confederation comprises two schools under one head teacher: Bilsdale Midcable Chop Gate and Carlton and Faceby. There are five highly experienced teachers one of whom is a music specialist.  In addition to the teachers the Head teacher, the teaching assistant and the secretary work at both schools.

Our pupils benefit from the Confederation of the two schools in a number of ways; There are opportunities for children to relate to both small and large groups of friends and to share the expertise of a larger group of highly experienced teachers
The Governors are able to address their strategic role within strong partnerships and staff have the opportunity for leadership at all levels.

Shared learning and cross community experiences equip children with those all-important life-skills and in addition our individual libraries are shared maximising the availability for the pupils.

All these factors means that we can, as a Confederation, have the opportunity to pioneer a very positive way of learning which benefits our pupils as well as the community.

We aim to promote positive attitudes and personal, social and emotional well-being as children gain social skills, attention skills and communication skills as well as all learning. Parents are our partners in education.
Inclusion within the school has been graded EXCELLENT by both North Yorkshire and OFSTED.

Our facilities:

Both the schools in the Confederation are located within the beautiful North Yorkshire Moors within the villages of Carlton and Chop Gate.

It is important that children work in pleasant surroundings. We are delighted that our caretaker has, for the fourth year, been awarded the Gold Star standard for cleaning and care of our school.

A benefit of our Confederation is the numerous after school clubs between both schools.

ICT offers computers that are available every day on a 3:1 ratio and other resources.

Information:

Weekly swimming for everyone
Computers accessible every day by all children
Child: Computer ratio 3:1
KS2 equipped with an interactive white-board 'Smartboard'.
An outdoor learning area for the younger pupils is available within the school - here experimental learning can be explored in safety
The school has two large playing areas. The school playground and a large field
There is also a unique wildlife area complete with pond
We support extremely high standards of reading with our extensive fiction libraries.
The children are encouraged to read at home every night
