About the School

Oryx International School https://oryxschool.qa/ is a unique project conceptualised by Qatar Airways and Orbital Education https://orbitaled.com/ creating a joint venture between a world renowned, multi-billion dollar turnover airline and a prestigious group of International schools. The objective of this £70 million project is to satisfy the demand for premium quality British style education for the children of expatriate employees of Qatar Airways in Doha.

The vision and mission of Oryx International School is to provide the employees of the world’s 5 star airline and their children access to a 5 star education. The new, bespoke, built to specification school will provide state-of-the-art facilities and education technology to enrich teaching and learning experiences for the students. The school aspires to foster an ethos of global citizenship, the celebration of cultural diversity and a wide international perspective to equip their students with the building blocks to become potential leaders of the future across the world.

The facilities offered at the new school site, combined with our approach to education, which incorporates British style and tradition based upon the English National Curriculum, while retaining the value of local culture and tradition, will allow Oryx International School to stand out. The school will welcome students from EYFS to Year 10 in 2018/19, adding sixth form provision in the following years. The school will cater for students aged 3 to 19 years old in future years.

This is a high-profile opportunity for an intelligent, ambitious, and energetic Senior Leader, to impact and shape international education and its delivery, by leading the embryonic development of a new first-class school in Doha, Qatar; one that is backed by a unique joint venture between a pioneering provider of high quality British style education overseas and the world’s five star airline.

About the person

We are seeking to recruit a highly motivated and experienced Principal, Head Teacher, or Senior Education Specialist, to will lead the school through this exciting period of development.

The ideal candidate for this exciting and challenging role will be able to demonstrate:

  • Experience of working within the Gulf Corporation Council (GCC)
  • An understanding of Islam and Arab culture
  • Experience with start-up schools and an understanding of the challenges involved in such a project
  • A proven track record of achievement in senior leadership positions at all-through schools
  • Substantial experience of working in a British international school environment outside the UK in a multi-lingual, multi-cultural setting
  • Comfortable interacting at a corporate and board level with the ability to lead change and achieve sustained improvements through engagement with key stakeholders
  • An understanding of methods used to support students with EAL and Special Educational Needs
  • A passion and a drive for developing teachers so that they deliver quality teaching and learning experiences for their students.

The new campus opened in September 2018 and is situated in Mesaimeer, a fast-growing area of Doha. It will provide state-of-the-art facilities and education technology to enrich teaching and learning experiences for the students. The school aspires to foster an ethos of global citizenship, the celebration of cultural diversity and a wide international perspective to equip their students with the building blocks to become potential leaders of the future across the world.

The school has a six form capacity from Foundation Stage 1 up to Year 13 and is already almost full in the Primary year groups and most Secondary year groups have four form entry.
