Job overview

This is a rare and exciting opportunity to join a uniquely successful West London flagship Academy and to lead it into its next stage of development and growth. The opportunity arises following the appointment of David Benson, the Academy’s founding Principal, as Head of Mill Hill School, after 10 years of exceptional leadership.

Kensington Aldridge Academy (KAA) is situated in the heart of North Kensington, a vibrant, ethnically and socially diverse community. Its £60 million campus, inspiring building and state of the art facilities provide a world class learning environment for the delivery of an outstanding academic and extra-curricular offer, holistic pastoral care and unparalleled opportunities for staff development.

In its short history of less than a decade, KAA has steered its way sensitively and steadfastly through the aftermath of the Grenfell Tower fire, a tragedy that has deeply affected the Academy, but does not define it. That it has made such a positive impact on addressing educational disadvantage locally in these circumstances is testament to the sheer determination, dedication, and resilience of the Academy’s leaders, teachers, pupils, and parents.

Driven by an ambition to further reduce social inequality in west London, the Trustees have exciting aspirations to grow and develop the Trust beyond its current expansion plans. They seek an exceptional individual who will honour KAA’s heritage, build on the strong foundations of the Academy’s first decade, and work to sustain and disseminate the outstanding educational practice in the school. Potential candidates will be experienced leaders with a proven track record of delivering all round excellence in complex urban environments; be committed to embracing and developing diversity and inclusion and championing social justice; and be team players as well as leaders, able to inspire, motivate and build teams. Above all, they will have the pioneering spirit, interpersonal, communication and ambassadorial skills, resilience, and creative energy to work collaboratively with the trustees and the whole KAA team of outstanding professionals to deliver their vision.

About Kensington Aldridge Academy (KAA)

KAA is an 11 – 18 academy situated in the heart of Notting Hill. We opened in brand new buildings in 2014 with just Year 7 and our facilities are second to none. We are now in our ninth year of operation and are a full school with 1,250 students in Years 7 to 13.

KAA has grown to become one of the top academies in the UK. Our Ofsted report grades us outstanding in all categories and describes standards as “exceptional”. In 2018 we were awarded TES Secondary School of the Year, and our 2022 Good Schools Guide review praises the “phenomenal” education students receive.

Why work for KAA?

Making a real difference

KAA pursues the very highest standards in education, both inside the classroom and beyond. We believe all children can achieve good results, irrespective of their prior attainment or experiences. 60% of our students qualify for the Pupil Premium, but with our help they can overcome the barriers that relative poverty can create. Our ethos, spirit and commitment to ever-extending student achievement make KAA an incredible place to work and learn.

Unrivalled professional development

KAA is a high-performing environment where staff at all levels feel challenged and supported to achieve their professional goals. As you will see in our Ofsted report, CPD in our school is of an “exceptional” standard and is an ongoing focus for all staff. There are few better places to develop your skills as a teacher than here with us in Kensington.

Being valued

We invest in our staff and offer unique benefits, including: 180 school days (as opposed to the 190 other schools have); 15 training days (as opposed to 5); free breakfast and lunch for all staff everyday; a two-week half term in October; free staff exercise and well-being sessions, and much more.
