Description | St Columban’s Primary School Mayfield is seeking 2 x Executive Release on a Temporary (0.2) basis for term 1 with the possibility to extend till the end of term 4. As Executive Release Teacher you will be responsible for teaching the curriculum of the assigned class whilst the executive staff member is released to fulfil their role. It is possible that these two positions could be covered by one person at the discretion of the Principal. | |
Position Requirements | All teachers will be expected to meet the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers (APST) required by NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA). | |
Essential Criteria | • Must be a practising Catholic
• Ability to articulate a clear understanding of and a personal commitment to Catholic Education and the mission of the Church through Catholic schools • The applicant has completed or will complete (within four years of appointment) a postgraduate qualification in Religious Education or Theological Studies • The applicant should have a four-year trained teacher classification and at least six, preferably eight years, successful teaching experience • A strong background in and command of a core content area in education with the ability to model and share current research and encourage evidence based practice • Demonstrated success in creating and leading effective professional learning and building the capacity of teachers as leaders in learning • Demonstrated ability to initiate and drive change and ensure a culture of continuous improvement • A demonstrated capacity to think and act strategically; to exercise sound judgement; and to support the Principal in leading the mission of the school • High level communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to develop and sustain constructive and respectful relationships within and beyond the school community • Demonstrated ability to effectively utilise data to optimise organisational and educational outcomes • Capacity to strengthen and integrate equity and diversity, work health and safety and performance management principles in the ongoing management and development of staff Note: To start or return to working as a teacher in a NSW school, you must be accredited by NESA. Teachers who have worked in a NSW school since before 1 October 2004, and have not had a break from teaching of more than 5 years, do not currently need to be accredited. Applicants must have a genuine desire to bring Jesus and the Catholic faith to the whole school community in a relevant way that encourages faith formation and development. |

St Columban's Primary School is an independent, co-educational, mainstream Primary School in Mayfield, New South Wales. The school is a multicultural community with 22 different nationalities, including a number of African, Asian and Pacific Islander cultures. Situated close to Newcastle, the school is part of the Hunter Valley region.

The school has a well-resourced library which students attend twice a week for lessons. The school shares a campus with the local Catholic High School, San Clemente, which allows for smooth transition from Primary to Secondary school. The school has a Learning Support Teacher and two learning support assistants. A pastoral support worker assists families and children in need, along with an English as Second Language (ESL) teacher who supports some 65 children who have backgrounds other than English.
Curriculum
As well as teaching the Key Learning Areas of the NSW curriculum, students have the opportunity to participate in guitar lessons, choir, drama indoor and outdoor sports and creative arts.
St Columban's places emphasis on supporting the local community as part of the faith curriculum and attends community initiatives such as parish masses, Heart Foundation, Waterwatch and Law Week functions.
