Job overview

The New School Rome is a very well established and highly successful British International School for students aged 3-18. The school performs exceptionally well at IGCSEs and A-levels and students go on to attend excellent UK universities. The school is small (220 students) and a truly delightful place to work offering: a high degree of classroom and departmental autonomy within a hard-working, friendly and uniquely democratic environment; motivated, high-achieving students in very small classes; a gorgeous environment close to Rome’s city centre. The school has a competitive salary scale and settling in allowance. The school is a member of the Council of British International Schools.

Qualities we are looking for in an applicant:

  • High academic and professional standards
  • The ability to inspire and enthuse students
  • Energy and enthusiasm for teaching and helping the school improve.
  • Willingness to move beyond the immediate classroom to contribute to the school overall.

The successful candidates should ideally have at least two years’ experience teaching in the British system – either in the UK or internationally - across the Secondary School. The school is very keen to hear from teachers who have held academic and/or pastoral management posts.

Deadline for applications: May 24th 2019.

Please apply by using our application form on the website: newschoolrome.com (click on ‘about us’ and go to employment). Initial interviews will be held via Skye/FaceTime with successful candidates being invited out to Rome to visit the school for a final round of interviews.

The New School Rome is committed to the safeguarding of its students and as such successful candidates will have to undergo an enhanced DBS check.

About The New School Rome

About Us

The New School was founded in 1972 by a group of parents and teachers who wanted to create a school where academic excellence would be combined with attention to the individual and the development of personal and social responsibility.

Throughout the years the school has served the needs of the international community in Rome by offering the best in English education from age 3 to age 18. The New School follows the English National Curriculum and is a recognised examination centre for 2 major English examination boards, Edexcel (London) and CIE (Cambridge International Examinations). It is also a long standing member of COBIS (Council of British International Schools) and is recognised by the Italian Ministry of Education. It is a non-profit making association.

Teachers, students and parents work together in partnership through representation on the two decision making bodies, the Academic Council and the Executive Council. The elected Chairperson of The Academic Council is also the Headteacher. The Chairperson of the Executive Council, which is responsible for the legal and financial aspects of the school, is an elected parent member.

School Environment
New School Rome

Situated on the leafy, residential north side of the city, The New School is just 15 minutes from Piazza del Popolo and the historic centre of Rome.

The school buildings are set in a beautiful garden with fruit trees and the large villa, which was once a family home, has retained its warm and friendly atmosphere. All of the classrooms have Wi-fi internet access and most are equipped with Interactive Whiteboards.

There are 2 libraries, 3 well-equipped laboratories, football and volleyball pitches, a Drama studio and an Art studio. The Physical Education part of the curriculum also makes use of the extensive facilities and qualified coaches available in a local sports club. Transport is available within the city limits.
