Charterhouse Square School was founded in 1985 by original headmistress Jennifer Mason. In 2008, the school became part of Cognita, a worldwide group of schools founded by Sir Chris Woodhead, former head of Ofsted, which now includes over 65 schools worldwide.

Values and vision

The school is proud of its academic success but places greater emphasis of creating the safe, nurturing environment that builds the self-confidence of the children and makes this possible. Pupils are taught that they matter and that they each have talents to celebrate, opinions to express and potential to explore.

Schemes such as a “buddy” system, which see each new girl and boy paired up with one of the pupils from the top of the school, plays an important role in creating a supportive environment.   Charterhouse Square School aims to provide a welcoming, open atmosphere so that pupils, parents and teachers all come together to form a strong supportive community.

School Inspection Service (SIS)

“The vision for the school and the high expectations the school has for its pupils are shared and fully understood by the entire school community. This vision allows all pupils and staff to excel. School leaders model effective and appropriate ways of working and the care and concern they have for staff ensures that they attract and retain excellent teachers and support staff.”
