Job overview

WHO WE ARE

Pimlico Primary (an Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ school), Churchill Gardens Primary Academy (an Ofsted-rated ‘Good’ school) and Millbank Academy are all state-funded primary schools based in the heart of Westminster in central London.

We are part of Future Academies, a multi-academy trust which includes three primary schools and seven secondary schools in and around London. We are motivated by a mission of social change and reducing educational inequality: our school and Trust are unique in our approach to a knowledge-rich curriculum, and in our strong emphasis on raising children’s aspirations and outcomes through the teaching of classical and traditional subjects. Our children study a bespoke curriculum developed by writers at our Curriculum Centre, which places a focus on developing their cultural literacy and their awareness of the forces, words and events that have shaped our society today.  We subject-specialise at primary level, meaning that our primary children are taught by several different subject experts, as they would be in the private sector. Our schools serve children from the most socially-deprived communities: our teachers can therefore make a dramatic impact on the lives of these children.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We are seeking a bright, passionate and socially-minded individual to join our team to teach EYFS, KS1 and KS2 across our three primary schools. This is an exciting role for an already experienced Teacher or Unqualified Teacher who wishes to gain experience working within a primary school setting.

As the successful applicant, you will:

  • Teach at Pimlico Primary on Mondays, Millbank Academy on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays and Churchill Gardens on Fridays
  • Cover PPA in EYFS, KS1 and KS2
  • Support each school with its COVID catch up programme
  • Provide support to pupils to enable them to access our curriculum and ensure accelerated academic progress
  • Provide support for pupils, the teacher and the school in order to raise standards of achievement for all pupils (e.g. children with SEND, children who speak English as an additional language and all underachieving groups)
  • Promote and support the inclusion of all pupils, including those with specific needs, both in learning activities and within the classroom
  • Use behaviour management strategies, in line with the school’s policy and procedures, to contribute to a purposeful learning environment and encourage pupils to interact and work co-operatively with others
  • Along with other teachers, evaluate pupils’ progress through a range of assessment activities
  • Work with external professionals and agencies (these may include social workers, health visitors, language support staff, speech therapists and educational therapists) where necessary, in order to support teachers and pupils
  • Understand and implement school child protection procedures and comply with legal responsibilities

WHY CHOOSE US?

  • The opportunity to teach engaged and inquisitive pupils in our unique primary schools.
  • The opportunity to join the Pimlico-London SCITT.
  • Fast career progression. Because knowledge and intelligence, rather than length of service, are lauded and rewarded at Churchill Gardens, teachers can quickly take up great responsibility, leading a department, joining the SLT or writing for the Trust’s Curriculum Centre, where our in-house textbooks are produced.
  • The chance to make a difference to children’s lives. We serve children from socially deprived communities: our teachers can therefore make a dramatic impact on the lives of these children.

About Pimlico Primary

Pimlico Primary is a new non-selective and non-denominational school in South Westminster.  The school opened with its first Reception cohort in September 2013 and continues to grow, year by year. Currently over 40% of our pupils are eligible for Pupil Premium and more than 70% speak English as an additional language.  Our knowledge-led curriculum inspires, and our excellent teaching challenges, with the result that children achieve highly while enjoying a vibrant and happy school life. We believe in giving children the very best start in life. Pimlico Primary truly is a place to grow.

A Unique Opportunity

Pimlico Primary’s building has been specially designed to support our knowledge-led curriculum.  The primary school building has a designated outdoor sheltered teaching space for children, library with adjoining roof terrace garden, art studio, hall, staffroom and fully resourced PPA room. On site, there is also an Ofsted ‘outstanding’ teaching school (the Pimlico SCITT) and Future Academies’ Curriculum Centre, which produces high quality resources  and research for the school.

Expanding a Successful School

Pimlico Primary shares a site with Pimlico Academy, an Ofsted ‘outstanding’ secondary school with a specialism in History and the Arts. Teachers and pupils have access to the wide range of specialist rooms and resources at the Academy, including drama studios, music rooms, and sporting facilities.

A Family of Schools

We are part of the Future Academies family of local schools.  Our sponsor, Future, is an educational charity that aims to help young people succeed.  It believes that, with the right support, encouragement and opportunities, there are no limits to what children can achieve.

Our proximity to our sister schools enables us to share effective practice and training opportunities.

Our Approach

Our approachto teaching and learning is coherent, cumulative and curriculum-led.   We believe that with the right preparation and delivery of classroom resources, pupils can engage with a broad range of different subjects from the day they start Reception.  Our curriculum is knowledge-led, which means that in addition to the important disciplines of English and Maths, our pupils will spend more time than other primaries focusing on History, Geography, Science, and the Arts.  Our Curriculum Centre collaborates with teachers and Teaching School to carefully design the content and sequence of our curriculum.

Raising Aspirations

We believe it’s our responsibility to broaden our pupils’ horizons.  Our knowledge-led curriculum gives pupils the means to explore and enjoy a world beyond their immediate environment.  Alongside this, our comprehensive Raising Aspirations Programme opens up a world of people and opportunities that demonstrate that, with effort and determination, the sky’s the limit of their achievement.

Our Commitment to Teachers

Overseen by Future Academies, Pimlico Primary works closely with the Curriculum Centre, Pimlico Teaching School and other training providers to ensure you receive bespoke training that makes a difference to your classroom practice.  We place a particular emphasis on curriculum development training and you will be supported in your use of existing resources and develop the knowledge and skills in order to make your own.  In order to accommodate this training, we’ve built an additional ten (maximum) paid days training into the academic year.  We are creating a dedicated curriculum development and resources room, so that you have all the materials you need to make effective and efficient use of your PPA time. Pimlico Primary is a new school with a handpicked enthusiastic, small staff.  As the school grows year by year, so too do the range of exciting opportunities and responsibilities that will be open to you.
