Job overview

We are currently recruiting for a passionate teaching assistant to work in our nursery setting in rural Cheshire.

For those passionate about early years, you will visit our Early Years setting and never want to leave. It is simply breath-taking! We are situated on beautiful grounds with buildings, which are purpose built for the early years. Our children play indoors and outdoors, in our large sand space, in the woodland or taking care of our pony and chickens...

We are seeking an outstanding early years educator who understands the importance of providing a safe, secure, healthy and stimulating environment for our youngest learners. Someone who understands how to nurture a young child’s need to explore, investigate and who will encourage their sense of wonder. We are looking for an experienced educator who understands the importance of positive relationships, high quality interactions and rich opportunities for play.

You must be qualified to at least level 3 in Early Years/Childcare.

The role is 5 days per week 8.00am - 4.30pm, term time only and is to start asap.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5 years experience of working with children aged 2-4 years in a nursery/private day care setting as a practitioner.
  • A relevant early years/childcare qualification at Level 3 or above.
  • Strong knowledge of the EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) and experience using Tapestry or another online learning journal would be an advantage.
  • An excellent understanding of safeguarding/knowledge of child protection procedures.
  • Good communication skills, approachable, confident and caring with a passion for working with nursery children.
  • Excellent team player and someone who understands the importance of positive relationships with colleagues.

If you have the skills to succeed in this role and are committed to the provision of high-quality childcare and education then please apply today. We'd love to hear from you!

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. As part of this process, all successful applicants are required to apply for an enhanced DBS disclosure.

Please note that this is a fixed term contract (until 31 August 2023), term time only position and therefore the salary would be pro-rata.

The School may interview and appoint prior to the closing date so welcome early applications.

About Terra Nova School

The School

Terra Nova is a leading Prep School for children age 2.5 to 13 years old. It is predominantly a day school, but offers an extended day in which children can stay for supervised Prep, tea, evening activities and overnight. There is, therefore, a thriving boarding community throughout the week.

From your very first visit, you will recognise that there is something special about Terra Nova School, with its successful blend of traditional values and fresh thinking and its wonderfully warm and welcoming atmosphere.

At Terra Nova we firmly believe that children who are happy and inspired succeed. Our broad curriculum, exceptional pastoral care and nurturing environment ensure that our children are both happy and inspired, and that they each develop their individual strengths.

For all at Terra Nova, academic success and good character are integral goals and in their attainment our children benefit from small classes, superb facilities and talented teachers. We are proud of the fact our children gain entrance to a wide range of the UK’s top independent schools and proud to say that their success thereafter is in no small part attributable to their fine start.

The children here take part in a wide variety of co-curricular activities and they each get the opportunity to participate in an array of sports, helping them to learn the importance of teamwork, build resilience and win and lose graciously. Throughout their time at the school, children are encouraged to try new experiences and take risks, which helps to build their self confidence, ignite passions and make lifelong friends.

We are fierce advocates of the traditional prep school model that allows our children to study with us until 13, preserving childhood until they reach their teens. However, whether leaving us at 13+ or at 11+, by the time our children move on to their senior school they are assured, motivated young people, well prepared to thrive and deal with the excitements and challenges that lie ahead.

I encourage you to come and visit us in our magnificent 35 acre rural setting, across from the awe-inspiring, internationally renowned Lovell Telescope, so that you can see for yourself what makes Terra Nova such an outstanding school.
