Job overview

About the role: High Halstow Primary Academy has a fantastic opportunity to appoint a Teaching Assistant who will provide impactful support for pupils, both on a 1:1 or small group basis, who need extra support in the classroom, based predominantly in our Year R class. This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference in our pupils' development and EYFS is a strength within the academy. Pupils have access to many natural resources and a wonderful outside area to aid their development. You will be working in the classroom and implementing programmes of support designed specifically to meet the pupils’ needs. The role offers the chance for a motivated and nurturing individual who has experience in working with primary-aged children, who aspires to grow and develop as an outstanding Teaching Assistant within our Trust.

We are ambitious for all of our pupils and believe that a Teaching Assistant working with our talented teaching staff will enhance pupil’s learning experience.  Our support staff ensure that they are well prepared and continuously develop themselves for the benefit of our pupils.  We are unrelenting and graciously uncompromising.

Ideally, you will already hold an NVQ Level 3 qualification in Teaching and Learning and will share our vision to support pupils to make better than expected progress in their learning as a result of your support of their learning.

The working basis of this role is Monday to Friday, 8.30am - 3.30pm.

Working with our academy: High Halstow Primary Academy is a one form entry village primary school with just over 200 pupils. It is ideally situated on the Hoo Peninsula with fantastic views and quiet surroundings as well as close links to the M2 and Medway Tunnel.  This provides excellent opportunities for staff to work collaboratively with colleagues in other schools as well as high-quality professional development.

Being part of Leigh Academies Trust: As of 1st September 2020, our Trust will comprise 28 geographically organised academies (11 secondaries, 15 primaries and 2 special) educating over 16,000 students, and employing over 2,500 talented staff.  We also have one further secondary academy in development phase, due to open in September 2021.  The Trust is establishing four ‘clusters’ of academies: North West Kent; Central Kent; South East London; Medway. In addition, the Trust is responsible for one of the region’s biggest initial teaching training providers and a large teaching school. As part of Leigh Academies Trust you will have ample opportunity to collaborate with your peers both within the academy and across the whole Trust.  This is an important part of our vision as we know through experience that we perform better when we work together.  You are supported to undertake regular self-development to continue your professional development and hopefully progress further within the organisation.

We strive to offer a range of benefits that all employees can take advantage of which we regularly review and add to - click here to view what you’d receive as a member of staff with Leigh Academies Trust.

Diversity at our core:  As a Trust we are passionate about diversity and recognise that as individuals we all bring something unique to the role regardless of age, gender, race, beliefs or disabilities which is why we treat all of our people equally, without compromise.

The academy is committed to safeguarding children and successful candidates will be subject to an Enhanced DBS check.  Our commitment to safeguarding is underpinned by robust processes and checks which are in place across the Trust.

Recruitment and hiring during COVID-19:  Despite the challenges we face, recruitment and hiring will continue for all Leigh Academies Trust vacancies with as little disruption as possible over the coming weeks and months.  This is for all senior, teaching and support staff appointments.  Applications will still be reviewed and interviews conducted in a timely manner, although interview activities will vary.  If you have any queries or concerns, please get in touch with the LAT Talent Team - talent@latrust.org.uk.

Based on the quality and quantity of applications received, Leigh Academies Trust reserves the right to close this vacancy sooner than the specified closing date.  Applicants will be notified of this where possible.  Therefore, early applications are encouraged.

Working with our academy: High Halstow Primary Academy is a one form entry village primary school with just over 200 pupils. The school merged with Leigh Academies Trust in January 2019 which provides outstanding opportunities for staff to work collaboratively as well as high-quality professional development.

The academy is fortunate to have fantastic indoor and outdoor environments where staff have vast opportunities to engage the pupils in their learning. Last summer, the wooden trim trail, fire pit area and outdoor classroom were added. The library has also recently been invested in to make it an inviting place to read for pleasure.
