Purpose of Role

To provide an efficient and effective Facilities service, whilst ensuring a clean and safe learning environment for students, staff and public.  You should be well organised, a good communicator with good general repair skills and a key eye for detail. Good at problem solving.


Duties

1. To carry out minor repairs to college property and equipment within his / her capabilities and Health & Safety requirements. Upkeep and repair tasks, including but not exclusive to the replacement of light bulbs, tighten cabinetry or appliance hardware, fix leaky pipes, clean drains, fix broken tiles, door closers, repair of outdoor structures and furniture.

2. To use the electronic property database (TABS) to report, accept, complete and close down allocated works on a daily basis. Ensuring works requested are recorded in the system.

3. To carry out weekly/ monthly fire alarm checks on all buildings, record findings, report defects.

4. To ensure the efficient operation of heating and hot water systems in conjunction with the Facilities Team Leader.

5. To ensure the efficient operation and control of both internal and external lighting systems in conjunction with the Facilities Team Leader.

6. External cleaning and clearing of college grounds, including signs, jetting and chewing gum removal. Cleaning of building exterior, cladding, windows and gutters, removal of leaves, snow / ice, fallen branches or other debris from walkways. 

7. Removal of refuse internal / external.  

8. To undertake porterage duties including the transportation and setting up of the furniture / equipment to meet the specified requirements.

9. To ensure opening and closing of buildings, including alarm setting and un-setting, both at the beginning and end of each working day, and as required when rooms are booked or on the college timetable / events.

10. To ensure that all external barriers and gates are secured when the college closes down.  

11. To ensure that all lights, other than security lights are extinguished.

12. To be available to assist with call out situations as and when required by Facilities Team Leader, Facilities Manager or Head of Facilities & Risk Management.

13. To drive college vehicles in accordance with college requirements, and to maintain vehicle logs.

14. To provide a porterage service to both campuses, including delivery of parcels, internal and external mail.

15. To set up/decant rooms for events (conferences, exams, meetings, theatre, etc) following the specific layouts provided.

16. To be responsible for effective and efficient management of Facilities supplies, maintaining and monitoring of inventory items and stock levels, ordering consumables in line with agreed processes. 

17. To be responsible for keeping all stores tidy ensuring that equipment is always booked in and out. Reporting any damaged and missing equipment.

18. To ensure wearing of correct uniform and PPE at all times whilst on campus.

19. To undertake additional training where required, which is relevant to the type of work involved in the job.

20. Ensure continuous development and improvement of professional knowledge.

21. Any other duties as assigned, of a similar level of responsibility, as may be required.

Hopwood Hall College is a further education college located in Rochdale, Greater Manchester. The college was first established in 1992, and since its founding has seen extensive redevelopment and modernisation, including the installation of a brand-new technology centre in 2012 which provides facilities for studying motor vehicle maintenance, engineering and brickwork. Although the college had previously contained its own sixth form centre, since 2010 Hopwood Hall has concentrated solely on vocational qualifications for school leavers, along with its extensive adult-education programmes. The college occupies two main sites, located close by to each other in Greater Manchester, each providing a range of high-quality teaching facilities.

Hopwood Hall College offers a huge range of subjects from entry-level courses up to foundation degrees, with part-time provision available for adult students looking to pursue their qualifications while working. In terms of younger students, Hopwood Hall begins accepting students at age 14, providing entry-level vocational qualifications and, potentially, apprenticeships for Key Stage 4 pupils looking to study outside of school. We have a purpose-built Salon, Restaurant and Technology Centre as well as extensive Sports and Animal Care facilities. Outside of study, the college also works hard to foster a sense of community among its students, playing host to a range of recreational common areas for students to relax and socialise.

They have established good links with community groups to engage with learners who have not participated in education and training for some time. These learners benefit from the development of their essential English and mathematical skills, including English for speakers of other languages; they are progressing to further study and/or employment.”
