Due to continued success we have a fantastic opportunity for a passionate and committed Family Support Worker & Attendance Officer to join the team at Laurus Ryecroft. You will become a key member of the Laurus Trust family, and will play a vital role in maintaining the high standards of the Trust.

Main Responsibilities 

  • Provide a high level of support to the most vulnerable students and their families to improve the welfare, achievement, attendance, attainment/progress, behaviour and any housing or financial difficulties these students/families may face. 
  • To work collaboratively with outside agencies and charities to offer the most appropriate and effective support for vulnerable families. 
  • To ensure whole school attendance is outstanding. Working with families, students and referring to agencies when a student’s attendance becomes a concern. 
  • Establish positive relationships with parents, staff and outside agencies in line with the schools’ vision and values. 
  • To submit penalty notices and be able to complete an Attendance Improvement Plan.
  • Ensure that members of the Leadership Team are kept updated on matters pertaining to students and families receiving additional support. 
  • Set agendas, chair meetings and review actions/deadlines/outcomes for the most vulnerable students as and when required. 
  • Work closely with the SEND team and Subject Leaders to identify barriers to achievement; guide and direct tutors in the implementation of intervention and support strategies to overcome those barriers. 
  • Lead and/or assist in initiatives to improve attainment and progress of students who require additional support and/or those who have experienced significant adverse childhood experiences. 
  • Work closely with the Head of Year and SEND team to analyse behaviour, attendance and progress data to identify students and families in need of additional support. 
  • Complete Early Help Assessments for families to assess their needs and to ensure the most appropriate support is provided. 
  • Follow the “Anxiety based school avoidance” guidance when students are finding attending school challenging due to mental health difficulties. 

Key Skills & Experience 

  • Experience of working with children/young people and involvement with parents 
  • Recent management experience with people 
  • Ability to present information to a variety of audiences 
  • Ability to relate to teachers, other professionals, parents and students 
  • Sound educational background including GCSE’s in Maths and English (A*-C) or equivalent 
  • Further/higher education or professional qualification would be desirable

Laurus Ryecroft is an oversubscribed secondary school for 11 to 18-year-old students in Tameside. In our very first Ofsted inspection in January 2023, Laurus Ryecroft was judged Outstanding in every category.

The school is run by the Laurus Trust and replicates the outstanding education offered by the Trust’s founder school, Cheadle Hulme High School (CHHS), based in Stockport. CHHS is a hugely oversubscribed school and has been named as one of the UK’s top-performing schools in The Sunday Times, ranking as the 15th non-denominational comprehensive school in Manchester and the North West in the annual Parent Power Survey for 2022.

Laurus Ryecroft is a non-selective, non-denominational free school. It opened in September 2018 and we moved into our new school building with access to state-of-the-art facilities in 2020.  We now have students in years 7 – 12. With the sixth form opening in September 2023.  We currently have a total of 1070 students on roll.

Laurus Ryecroft is a vibrant, warm and exciting place to work and learn in. We are proud to be ‘Unashamedly Academic’ and have the highest aspirations for all of our students.
