Job overview

We are looking for a talented FE Engineering Resource Developer and Trainer to join our outstanding Education Programmes team.

The Royal Academy of Engineering is harnessing the power of engineering to build a sustainable society and an inclusive economy that works for everyone.

In collaboration with our Fellows and partners, we’re growing talent and developing skills for the future, driving innovation and building global partnerships, and influencing policy and engaging the public.

Together we’re working to tackle the greatest challenges of our age.

Our education and skills activities are focused on addressing the UK’s engineering skills challenge. We work across all phases of education to encourage greater numbers of people – and people from a more diverse range of backgrounds – to become engineers and technicians.

We currently have a vacancy within our Education Programmes team for an FE Engineering Resource Developer and Trainer. You will play a key role in the development and delivery of teaching and learning resources and teacher and lecturer training. You will play an integral role in providing the next generation of new, advanced, and higher qualified technicians with the skills required to work in areas critical to economic growth, including entrepreneurship, emerging technologies and the net zero carbon economy. This is a great opportunity for you to make a difference at a national level.

To succeed in this role, you will have an understanding of the current further education system in England and the role of engineering within it, or a knowledge of modern engineering and the skills needs of the engineering industry. You will be an effective communicator, both orally and in writing and have excellent project-management skills.  You will also need to be a self-starter with the confidence to work autonomously and pro-actively as well as have excellent computer skills and knowledge of the full Microsoft suite of programmes. We are looking for someone who is an FE engineering lecturer or an engineering graduate (or equivalent experience/qualifications).

We are also recruiting for a T Level Manager: Engineering and Manufacturing. If you would also like to be considered for that role you will need to submit a separate application. To find out more and to apply, please visit our website at www.raeng.org.uk/careers.

In return, we offer an unrivalled package of benefits including a non-contributory pension scheme, BUPA cash plan, private medical insurance, subsidised restaurant, regular social activities, health and wellbeing programmes and the possibility of flexible working, as well as significant investment into your personal and professional development. Our offices are based in central London near St. James’ Park. During Covid-19 all staff have been working remotely, this will continue until September, when we will move to flexible working with 2 days a week in the office.

If this sounds like you, we would love to hear from you.

To find out more and to apply, please visit our website via the apply button.

Closing date: Midday on 9 August 2021.

First interviews will be held virtually using Zoom on 18 and 19 August.

A DBS (Disclosure Barring Service) check will be required for this role.

About The Royal Academy of Engineering

"As Britain’s national academy for engineering, we bring together the country’s most eminent engineers from all disciplines to promote excellence in the science, art and practice of engineering. Our strategic priorities are to enhance the UK’s engineering capabilities; to celebrate excellence and inspire the next generation; and to lead debate by guiding informed thinking and influencing public policy."

Strategic Priorities

The Academy’s work programmes are driven by three strategic priorities, each of which provides a key contribution to a strong and vibrant engineering sector and to the health and wealth of society.

Enhancing national capabilities

As a priority, we encourage, support and facilitate links between academia and industry. Through targeted national and international programmes, we enhance – and reflect abroad – the UK’s performance in the application of science, technology transfer, and the promotion and exploitation of innovation. We support high quality engineering research, encourage an interdisciplinary ethos, facilitate international exchange and provide a means of determining and disseminating best practice. In particular, our activities focus on complex and multidisciplinary areas of rapid development.

Recognising excellence and inspiring the next generation

Excellence breeds excellence. We celebrate engineering excellence and use it to inspire, support and challenge tomorrow’s engineering leaders. We focus our initiatives to develop excellence and, through creative and collaborative activity, we demonstrate to the young, and those who influence them, the relevance of engineering to society.

Leading debate

Using the leadership and expertise of our Fellowship, we guide informed thinking; influence public policy making; provide a forum for the mutual exchange of ideas; and pursue effective engagement with society on matters within our competence. The Academy advocates progressive, forward-looking solutions based on impartial advice and quality foundations, and works to enhance appreciation of the positive role of engineering and its contribution to the economic strength of the nation.
