The St Marylebone CE School is seeking to appoint a Finance Assistant to support the Finance Manager and Director of Finance and Administration in the operation of two schools: the mainstream secondary school and its sister school, The St Marylebone CE Bridge School (a Special Free School). 

 JOB DESCRIPTION:  

As part of the Finance Team, the Finance Assistant will be the principle buyer of goods and services for both schools, ensuring procurement processes are followed and best value achieved. They will be responsible for the accurate and timely processing of purchase invoices using Sage accounting software, reconciling to supplier statements, and will prepare payment runs for authorisation. Their work will support the preparation of regular management accounts and they will also play an integral part in the year end process, supporting the Finance Manager in preparation for, and during, the annual audit. The post holder will have additional responsibility for scheduling and coordinating lettings of school premises to third parties.  

Salary: £22,219 to £25,437.   

Daily hours: 08:30-16:30. Shorter hours possible.  

Holidays: Min 23 days.   

Pension: Local Government Scheme.  

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:  

The Finance Team is an integral part of the Schools’ extensive network of support staff consisting of learning support assistants, technicians, site managers, receptionists, a data team, exams officer, admissions officer, mentoring team and other administrators. There will be ample opportunity to get involved in many aspects of school life, including the Performing Arts specialism, and this will be encouraged. Both schools are independent academy trust companies, regulated by the Education Funding Agency, and the Governors are very supportive of, and value, the competence of the Finance Team.  

LOCATION:  

The School is situated in a prime Central London location on Marylebone High Street with excellent transport links. Nearest tube stations: Baker Street, Regents’ Park, Bond Street. Nearest train stations: Paddington, Marylebone, Euston.  

PERSON SPECIFICATION: 

Essential: 

•Reliable and trustworthy. 

•Numerate. 

•Good written and communication skills. 

•Dedicated to high quality delivery. 

•Strong IT skills. 

•Excellent attention to detail with the ability to work consistently to high levels of accuracy, particularly when processing transactions 

•Organised in respect of time management and delivery of duties. 

•Helpful and collaborative approach to work. 

•The ability to maintain strict confidentiality of information received and processed as part of the role.  

Desirable: 

•Previous experience using accounting software, preferably Sage. 

•Previous experience as a Purchase Ledger Clerk. 

•Commercial attitude with ability to negotiate best pricing. 

•Knowledge of VAT treatment on purchases. 

•Ability to be adaptable within a busy school environment.

The St Marylebone CE School is an all-girls secondary with co-educational sixth form in Westminster, central London. It is affiliated with the Church of England and designated a National Teaching School. Since 2011, St Marylebone has had academy status.

The St Marylebone CE School welcomes applications from people of all backgrounds, races, cultures, faiths and genders.   The School actively promotes diversity and inclusion across its community and our students come from a wide range of backgrounds: 40% of our students speak English as an additional language; 59% of our students come from backgrounds other than white British.

The secondary school is located next to St Marylebone Parish Church and is a short walk from Regent’s Park. The sixth-form facilities are based in nearby Blandford Street. St Marylebone was founded in 1791 and it carries the motto "An opportunity to excel". There are currently around 1,100 students, 300 of whom are in the sixth form.
