Job overview

Full time, permanent position, starting: September 2019.

An AAT qualified and experienced Finance Manager is sought to be responsible for the accounting and financial reporting functions in the school.

Nationally celebrated, More House School provides an exceptional, mainstream education for boys with Specific Learning Difficulties.  Providing a transformative education repeatedly recognised as ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted over more than a decade, we offer a specialised learning environment for 470 day and boarding boys from Year 4 to Year 13.  Our pupils are taught to recognise their strengths and develop their self-belief so that they achieve independence and extraordinary results at GCSE, BTEC and A Level, above the national averages.

The Bursary comprises the Bursar, Finance Manager, HR Manager and two Finance Assistants. It is the Financial and Personnel hub of the school. As well as helping the other support departments, it provides information and support to academic managers to assist them in delivering their unique service to our pupils.

We are looking to appoint a dynamic and enthusiastic Finance Manager.

This post would suit an experienced qualified AAT.  Reporting to the Bursar, the successful applicant will have a proven track record in delivering timely management accounts and other financial reports to senior and line management. They will be responsible for producing monthly management accounts, reconciling control accounts, banking administration, payroll management, debtors and creditors ledgers, year-end function, liaising with Auditors, managing a busy finance team in the Bursary and working closely with the HR Manager.

The post-holder will keep under review the working practices in the Bursary and make recommendations as to their improvement.

Ongoing professional development is supported through the school’s support of training opportunities.  Lunch is provided free of charge, daily, as is parking within the school’s beautiful grounds.

The above list of duties is not exhaustive, and the post-holder may be required to perform such other duties as may be deemed necessary by the Bursar from time to time. This is a non-residential post.

Outstanding day and boarding school for boy's aged 8-18 who struggle to thrive in a mainstream setting due to speech, language or communication issues.

Considered a national center of excellence, and the largest school of its kind in the UK.

Our aim is to help each boy who joins us, achieve, in the widest possible sense, more than he, or his parents, ever expected. This is accomplished by knowing a great deal about each student – his strengths as well as his difficulties. For his strengths, he must first be helped to identify them and, eventually, change them into a marketable form. His difficulties will not be static. We are mindful that we must be alert to changes caused by a student's own development, those of society and by the curriculum and make sure that each of our students is equipped to meet them.
