We have an exciting opportunity within our Sports Centre for a qualified Fitness Manager.

Opened in September 2010, Uppingham School Sports Centre (‘USSC’) is a fully dual-use facility used by 1,300 public members as well as the School. Described by Lord Coe at its opening as ‘world class’, USSC has been designed to provide state-of-the-art sporting facilities for the school’s pupils, as well as allowing access to local residents, sports clubs and other schools. 

Key accountabilities include:

  • Ensuring an outstanding service is delivered within the USSC and for all users
  • Leading and motivating USSC staff
  • Managing and monitoring fitness retention
  • Creating and reviewing class timetables
  • Reporting on the performance of the department including class and personal training KPIs

The ideal candidate will have experience working at managerial level in a customer-focused leisure environment. They will also need a proven record of meeting and exceeding KPI targets.

Working 40 hours per week (Including one weekend shift in 4 weekends, one late shift per week and one fitness shift per week on Wednesday 6.45am-2.15pm).

Uppingham School is a mixed, Church of England independent secondary school with sixth form and boarding, located in Leicestershire. The secondary school, situated in Uppingham has approximately 791 students on record.

Uppingham School was founded in 1584, originally as a school for boys. In 1975 girls were admitted, and it became fully co-educational as of 2001. The majority of students attending the secondary school are boarders.

Creative abilities are well developed and their exploration of ideas is particularly marked in their enrichment activities. Pupils’ study habits are good. In the lessons observed, pupils worked very well with each other, and also worked well independently. They enjoy their work and this stems in part from the good-natured atmosphere in lessons.
