Royal Russell is an HMC/IAPS co-educational school with over 1000 pupils between the ages of 3 and 18, situated on a beautiful green campus of 110 acres in the Shirley Hills near Croydon on the doorstep of London. Are you a talented, self-motivated and experienced Food Technician able to support our enthusiastic Food teaching team who are passionate about delivering effective teaching and learning ensuring high levels of student success? This is a varied role delivering lessons and support within the curriculum working with a group of professionals committed to providing high quality Food lessons to our students. The department delivers Food Preparation and Nutrition throughout Key Stage 3 and it is an optional subject at GCSE. It is a professional department which is well regarded in the school. It plays host to many House competitions for both staff and students alike. You will make up the team in Food & Nutrition consisting of 3 teachers and technician. 

You should have previous experience in a commercial catering or food education setting, ideally with experience of supporting young people to learn and develop in an educational setting and have some knowledge of the secondary curriculum in Food and Nutrition. You must be capable of using your initiative, as well as working collaboratively and supportively with teaching staff to set up, support and resource lessons in the department. It would be helpful if you have an awareness of relevant Health and Safety issues and are able to demonstrate effective use of equipment. Excellent inter-personal skills are essential as you will be working closely with staff and students. 

You should have good levels of computer literacy, good organisational skills and be equally happy working unsupervised as well as part of a team to a high standard. This is a full-time term-time position working 5 days a week Monday-Friday during term-time. You will be also running after school cooking clubs which is part of the department’s contribution to the extra-curricular programme, this is normally run on a Wednesday and Thursday afternoons; however, we will work with the needs of the technician’s commitments.
