Food Technology Lead

Tes are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and inspirational Lead Teacher of Food Technology on a full-time permanent basis from September 2021.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a 'Good' co-educational, non-selective secondary school for pupils aged 11-18. Located in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, it is part of a non-profit education charity with a chain of secondary and primary academies across the Midlands and East Norfolk.
As one of the most improved schools in the UK last year, the school attribute their success to their emphasis on coaching and professional development. Staff have considerable access to a broad range of opportunities to further develop their practice. They are on-going participants in a number of programmes including ‘Teaching Leaders’, Olevi’s ‘Outstanding Teacher Programme’ and ‘Future Leaders’. In addition, staff have abundant opportunities to debate their practice through the ‘Breakfast Learning Team’ and to participate in school-to-school development as part of the growing multi-academy trust that is well supported by leaders in education across the country.
It is because of these opportunities that Ofsted noted the ‘real buzz about the school: learners are enjoying their learning and teachers are enjoying the challenge of developing highly effective lessons and learning opportunities’ when they visited in July 2016. The school was judged ‘good’ in May 2017 (Ofsted).
The food technology learning area is a very popular curriculum subject, currently taught on rotation in KS3 and as an option in key stage 4. Due to the success of the subject, the school are looking to increase participation rates in key stage 4. There is currently one teacher who delivers the programme of study and they are looking to recruit a lead teacher for the subject to further expand curriculum implementation and to drive outcomes.
The Successful Candidate:
- Qualified Teacher Status
- A degree in food technology or a relevant subject
- Expertise in planning the progression of subject skills within individual and across sequences of lessons in food technology
- High standard of written and verbal communication
- Successful experience of teaching food technology at KS3 and KS4
- To be able to develop good learning relationships with students so that they are all motivated to learn and make good progress
- Able to differentiate resources to meet the needs of all students effectively
