French & Spanish Teacher needed for the Autumn Term, working with a strong department with outstanding leadership,this teacher will promote our on-going successful values to achieve academic excellence for all our students.

The MFL department teaches French from Nursery to year 11, with Spanish being offered from year 5 to year 11 and German from KS3 up to GCSE. The department is enthusiastic, successful and innovative in its delivery and use of IT in all MFL teaching and extra-curricular activities. The department currently uses the Edexcel GCSE exam board and use the new Pearson activeteach and activelearn resources for all three languages at KS3 and KS4. The department has a Sony Virtuoso Language Lab and makes full use of iPads.

The Role

Reporting to the Head of Modern Foreign Languages, members of the languages department are accountable for pupil progress and development and must work together to ensure the provision of an appropriately balanced, relevant and differentiated MFL curriculum for all which is exciting and far-reaching. 

Key Responsibilities

Learning and Teaching

  • Teach French and Spanish (from y5-y11) across the age and ability range at an appropriate lesson load subject to the needs of the curriculum
  • Contribute to the coordination of appropriate pupil classes
  • Act on underachievement and provide intervention classes as appropriate
  • Organise and oversee a French/Spanish club and revision classes if necessary
  • Organise entries for any French/Spanish competitions locally or nationally
  • Work with others in the department to develop the MFL curriculum and attend regular meetings
  • Accompany residential trips as appropriate and to assist with language evenings and assemblies
  • Plan and coordinate oral language sessions

School improvements and quality assurance

  • Inspire languages and actively promote the uptake of GCSE languages
  • Ensure internal assessments and examinations are set and administered professionally
  • Liaise with the HOD on matters relating to external examinations
  • Undertake professional development as agreed with school leaders
  • Assist with the development and upkeep of quality displays to promote a lively and stimulating environment to learn
  • Perform additional duties and tasks required for the effective operation of the school as directed by the Headteacher.
