Job overview
Hampton Court House is a fast-growing co-educational independent school situated in beautiful riverside parkland between Richmond and Hampton in South-West London. The school has just over 300 pupils from Early Years through to Year 13.
The school is proud to be one of the four schools in the UK to receive the Label FrancEducation, given to those who excel in bilingual Francophone education.
Hampton Court House is a profoundly Francophile school which believes in fostering French not just as an academic subject but as a living language through which we teach other subjects. In Lower Years of the school, more than half of the lessons are taught in French by native French speakers, thus creating confident, fluent young speakers.
We are now looking to recruit a dynamic and passionate, full-time, French teacher. Experience in GCSE and A Level is required along with knowledge of FLE, and you will be expected to lead our students with their Year 7 DELF examinations through to our FLAM programme and then finally onto studying at French universities if they wish. This post will require someone to have a high level of spoken and written French.
The French department is a dynamic department that organises exciting events throughout the school year. Through the study of literature, French films and music, we are aiming to infuse our pupils with the love of learning a foreign language as well as developing their awareness and understanding of different cultures. We are looking forward to welcoming a new member of our team.
Salary: Commensurate with experience and qualifications

Start Date: September 2022

About Hampton Court House
Nestled in Bushy Park, Richmond-upon-Thames, Hampton Court House is an independent co-educational day school for ages 2 – 18, educating Early Years children in our Pre-Prep School & Nursery, The Little Courtiers, to students in Year 13.
The majority of our pupils elect to stay on to complete their full education with us, enjoying great success in their GCSEs and A Levels: in 2023, 40% of A Level grades were awarded A*/A, resulting in a 100% Oxbridge and Russell Group application success rate. Our GCSE results were equally strong, with 70% of all GCSE grades being awarded A*/A. Hampton Court House was in 2022 ranked in the top 50 independent schools nationwide (The Telegraph) and in the top 10 co-educational independent schools in London (School Owl, 2023).
Our programmes offer an extraordinary education. From the Forest School in Early Years and the award-winning Institut francais LabelFrancÉducation accredited French bilingual programme, to the Nebula Future Researcher’s Programme © in the Sixth Form, Hampton Court House pupils get a head start every step of the way.
We lay the foundations of a lifelong love of learning, and it is important to us that children enjoy being here and look forward to coming to school. In keeping with our ethos, we believe that children need some guided freedom in order to develop their independence and confidence to use their voice. Our non-uniform parkland campus environment, in which staff and pupils alike are addressed on a first-name basis, cultivates an energy where pupils grow in confidence and find themselves.
The school is located close to Hampton Court station, which is 35 minutes from Waterloo and 20 minutes from Wimbledon by train. There are also frequent buses to and from Kingston, Hampton, Teddington and Twickenham, or for staff who drive, there is on-site parking.
