Job overview

We are an outstanding secondary special school for students with learning and additional needs (LAN). We are seeking an inspirational Art teacher to join our dynamic, highly motivated and dedicated staff team. Every student matters at The Abbey and every decision we take is based on what is in the best interests of the individual. Our staff are our greatest asset and we are extremely proud of our whole school ethos.

Over the next two years, The Abbey will be undergoing significant investment as we expand from a 2 to 3-form entry school to support Surrey County Council’s SEND Sufficiency Strategy 2020 – 2025. This will provide us with a range of brand-new facilities including 9 classrooms (5 subject specialist for Art, DT, Science, Performing Arts and Catering), a learning resource unit, sports hall and suite of therapy rooms.

We are looking for an experienced specialist art teacher to join our team to lead and coordinate art across key stages 3 and 4. The position would also include a form tutor role.  The planned school development and new facilities provide a very exciting opportunity to bring innovation and creativity to the role and further develop the art provision within the school.

Working in a special school is extremely rewarding and our students continue to amaze us on a daily basis with their attitudes, achievements and behaviour.  We warmly invite you to come and meet us and see our amazing students and staff in action prior to placing your application.

The Abbey School converted to Academy status on 1st September 2018 and is part of the Weydon Multi Academy Trust (WMAT) offering a wide range of benefits including increased CPD opportunities.

We look forward to receiving your application to join our dedicated and passionate team and become part of the exciting development project as we develop and grow within WMAT.

We were graded Outstanding by OFSTED in 2009, 2012 and 2016.
