The Vacancy

The School is seeking to appoint a full-time or part-time Teacher of English and Media Studies starting in September 2023. This is a large, busy and supportive department of experienced teachers who teach English from Years 9-13. In Years 9-11 pupils study both English Language and Literature. In the Sixth Form pupil numbers have been very good and the Department achieves excellent results with a number of pupils taking up Oxbridge offers in recent years. The Department has grown recently with the introduction of Media Studies as an A Level option which has proved a popular. The Department runs various trips and visits during the course of the year. 

The role includes the following responsibilities:

  • Responsibility for the teaching and learning of pupils who study English from years 9-13 within the allocated teaching sets.
  • A willingness to teach A Level Media Studies would be an advantage
  • Setting and marking appropriate work for these teaching sets.
  • Maintaining high standards in the classroom.
  • Supporting department events and initiatives.
  • Communicating effectively with the Head of Department, parents, tutors and House masters/mistresses on matters relating to pupils.
  • Attending parents’ meetings.
  • Being a tutor and fulfilling the associated duties and responsibilities.
  • Making a full contribution the co-curricular life of a busy boarding school.

Dean Close School is a co-educational day and boarding school which provides continuity of education from age 2+ to 18. The School was established in 1886, and is set in 50 acres of parkland in the centre of Cheltenham.
