Job overview

Fortune College is a further education college for young adults with learning difficulties and disabilities. Working with horses, our students learn independent living skills, social and communication skills, Maths, English, ICT, skills for work and accredited qualifications.

We are looking for a well-qualified and inspirational teacher of functional skills to join our team and teach functional skills and GCSE to small groups of students to the end of the academic year in the first instance.

You will deliver high quality English and Maths to young people aged 16-25 with a range of SEND needs. The focus of Fortune College revolves around increasing academic and vocational qualifications and knowledge, whilst achieving independent living skills that will equip young people for the next stage in their lives, be that further education, training or work. 

The college is set within the beautiful New Forest Park and surrounded by stunning scenery making it a truly inspiring place to work and learn. The college has 25 resident horses that provide a focus for learning and help to embed transferable skills. We maintain the highest aspirations for all our students regardless of their learning journey and continuously look for ways that we can embed learning making the most of our excellent resources. We place as much importance on vocational excellence as we do on personal growth, resilience, self-regulation, and personal development. 

If successful, you will:

  • Contribute to the delivery and development of the curriculum offer
  • Work collaboratively with other members of staff as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Maintain and use short, medium and long term plans in delivering the curriculum
  • Set, monitor and review personalised targets that will optimise learning for everyone
  • Undertake initial assessment of students and carry out baseline and progress assessments
  • Contribute to the review of EHC plans
  • Provide clear structures for lessons maintaining pace, motivation and challenge

Fortune College is a specialist college for young people with learning difficulties and/or disabilities aged 16-25. 

The college’s Further Education Through Horsemastership (FETH) Course offers an educational residential/day programme, working with horses, that prepares young people with learning disabilities to live as independently as possible and participate in their local community.
