King’s College London Mathematics School (KCLMS) is for highly motivated students aged 16-19 with a particular aptitude and enthusiasm for mathematics. The school is seeking to appoint a skilled teacher of mathematics with experience of training teachers through mentoring and classroom observation to work on the school’s extensive outreach programme that is a response to the shared vision of the school’s governors and also of the Department for Education for KCLMS to be a centre of excellence for the teaching and learning of mathematics.
The Further Maths Mentor will work with teachers enrolled on the KCLMS Further Mathematics Course to improve and develop their practice principally through school visits during which they will conduct lesson observations and support participants to create and develop effective schemes of learning. The post holder may also take on broader activities within the school’s outreach programme including teaching on our GCSE enrichment programme and leading on our new GCSE Easter revision school for high-attaining students.
The successful candidate will have strong academic credentials. They will have a proven track record of successfully working with teachers to improve and develop their practice and will have a passion for improving the quality of mathematics education.
There is flexibility in the remit that allows a candidate to choose their time commitment, from 0.2FTE for the Further Maths Course mentoring role to 0.4FTE if the various other aspects of the role are taken up. The post will commence from January 2017, with the precise start date negotiable. The contract will initially be for a fixed term of between 6 and 18 months.
