About Tiree High School

Tiree High School is a non-denominational co-educational school, catering for pupils from age three to eighteen in Pre 5, primary and secondary departments. This means we serve as the local Pre 5, primary and six year secondary comprehensive for Tiree open to both boys and girls of all religious faiths or none. We aim to provide equal opportunities for all pupils in all aspects of their education. It is the policy of the school to provide equal opportunity for all pupils to benefit from the whole curriculum on offer regardless of gender or ethnic background. The aim is to counter all forms of discrimination in relation to the groups identified in the Local Authority’s Social Strategy and in Educational Department documents.

A fairly unique feature of the school is that it provides education for the children of Tiree through the ages of 3 to 18 and beyond. The school has an excellent pupil/teacher ratio and is very well equipped to allow a broad based curriculum to be provided.

Being a small school does give advantages and opportunities which are not readily available in larger schools. Pupils are seen very much as individuals and the needs of each pupil can be addressed as they progress through the school. This allows all pupils to develop, as fully as possible, talents needed to realise their potential to lead a fulfilling life. In partnership with parents and the wider community, we wish to foster qualities such as confidence, creativity, responsibility, self-discipline and self-reliance.

The school plays a central role in the life of the island community and aims to foster links which add to the quality of life and the educational experience for the pupils.
