BELIEVE IN TRADITIONAL VALUES AND ACADEMIC RIGOUR? Want a SLT who visibly support staff? Want to teach pupils who behave impeccably at all times?
Then you will be interested in our oversubscribed 11-16 school in the centre of Bedford, and just 30 minutes from London. We are recruiting a geography teacher.
RESPECT, HONESTY, HIGH EXPECTATIONS
At BFS our values drive everything that we do and as a result our teachers enjoy impeccable behaviour in lessons and hardworking, highly motivated pupils. Open for just 5 years, Bedford Free School is a genuinely comprehensive school that provides a knowledge-based education for pupils of all backgrounds. We teach an unashamedly academic curriculum consisting of the best that has been thought and said, and as you would expect, geography is at the heart of this.
With waiting lists in each year group and GCSE results placing us amongst the top schools locally, we have quickly become a hugely popular school. Demand for places is very high as parents want the combination of a BFS education and our distinctive small school feel for their children.
We’re looking for people who want to be the best. You will be excellent in the classroom and an inspiring character who is willing to lead by example, but will also contribute positively to wider school life. Most of all, you will be clear that education is a great leveler and work hard to help us achieve our goal of preparing every pupil to go to university.
The department consists of the head of geography and one other colleague – who is brilliant but is going to teach RE next year. We have links to some of the most successful geography teachers in the country. You will be working with a subject-specialist to continue our development of a world-class curriculum.
The department is housed in dedicated classrooms, each equipped with interactive whiteboards and projectors. There is a humanities office which provides a quiet working space and the opportunity for the close knit team to come together regularly.
Results in Geography are strong, but with room for improvement. We are ambitious about fulfilling our vision to be one of the strongest performing departments in the country.
SUPPORT AND DEVELOPMENT
Career development is a priority - there will be opportunities to work on whole school priorities and gain the experience required to progress into middle or senior leadership in due course. Additionally, we offer financial assistance for relevant post graduate study and support for middle leaders wishing to apply to become Specialist Leaders of Education. We have partnerships with a number of local training providers and with Inspiration Trust in Norfolk. You will be joining us at an exciting time – in addition to our newly completed £2m extension, a local primary school joined our multi academy trust in April 2017, and we will be opening our second brand new secondary school in nearby St Neots very soon. The growth of our MAT is sure to create exciting opportunities for our staff in the future.
There are no unwieldy and impossible marking policies, our pupils’ behaviour is impeccable supported by same-day whole-school sanctions where necessary, and Senior Leaders have a very high profile to ensure that you are supported to develop.
If our traditional approach and values of Respect, Honesty and High Expectations match yours, then we welcome visits to the school at any time and would encourage you to apply. For a confidential discussion about the position contact Esther Logan, PA to SLT, on 01234 332290 or email firstname.lastname@example.org to arrange an appointment
Early applications are encouraged as we reserve the right to close this post should a suitable candidate apply.
We strongly advise a visit as this school is unlikely to be like anything you have ever seen!
