Job overview

We are looking for a Geography Teacher to join our inspiring and pioneering school that offers opportunities for professional development and growth.

This is an exciting role for an excellent and enthusiastic teacher as we prepare our students for GCSE and beyond. With our oldest year group currently in Year 10 this post is ideally suited for a teacher who is passionate about curriculum design and development, especially at KS4 and KS5. The post-holder will be joining an innovative, ambitious and energetic Geography department that seeks to deliver an outstanding curriculum. We work collaboratively, within the department and with our sister school, Twyford CE High School, to create courses which inspire, challenge and nurture students of all abilities.

Our aim is to create a curriculum that encourages a love of Geography and a desire to pursue Geography through to GCSE and A Level. So far we have been successful in this endeavour and Geography has proved to be a popular subject amongst students, with many choosing to continue their study of Geography at KS4. Our curriculum is driven by sharply focused learning outcomes leading to thorough subject knowledge and sustained progress. We assess our students rigorously and regularly, with students working towards GCSE and A-level assessment objectives even at KS3. This ensures that there is a development of key geographical skills and depth of knowledge required for them to be successful throughout their schooling. Consequently our Geography results are outstanding.

The post-holder will help the development of the department in extending its extra-curricular activities. We are hoping to run the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme next year, as well as running a ‘Future Geographers’ programme of activities for students who may wish to continue studying Geography post 16 or work in the field of Geography. We are also looking for the post-holder to contribute ideas and resources to develop our Geography site on the Trust’s highly innovative VLE.

William Perkin prides itself on the standard of teaching and learning, and the post-holder will join a staff community who work collaboratively to share best practise and continuing professional development.

We are committed to making William Perkin an enjoyable environment for people to work. We firmly believe that any teacher who visits William Perkin will see for themselves the benefits of working here: exceptionally courteous and engaged students who are motivated to learn, outstanding senior leadership, and an incredibly supportive student and staff community built through the school’s clear ethos and wonderful facilities. It is for this reason that we highly recommend prospective applicants come and visit the school and speak to the students and staff. If you are interested in visiting, or if you have any further questions about the post, please contact the Head of Department, Ms Katherine Gledhill at kgledhill@williamperkin.org.uk

The successful candidate will have:

  • A good degree and QTS
  • Outstanding skills as a classroom teacher and as a tutor
  • An ability to plan inspiring and challenging curricula
  • An ability to be reflective and driven towards self-improvement
  • Energy and enthusiasm
  • A commitment to the ethos of the school
  • Experience of teaching KS5 Geography (desirable but not essential)

The role is suitable for NQT and RQT applicants.

We offer:

  • Exceptional professional development and career progression
  • Positive working relationships at all levels
  • The opportunity to be part of an outstanding Trust that continues to grow
  • A supportive and lively Leadership Team
