Visions and value
The school prides itself on being a student-centred learning community based on these three principles: there are no barriers to success, no ceiling to achievement and no excuses for underperformance. They want every student to be ambitious and to strive to achieve their best. They hope to provide a curriculum that gives them an opportunity to develop their skills, discover new abilities and to even improve their strengths. The school wants to prepare all pupils for work and life in the modern world.
The curriculum aims to provide consistency across all lessons. Teachers strive to embrace creativity and to ensure all classes follow the school’s key features: Brain in Gear, a short activity that engages all students at the beginning of the lesson, the Learning Context, or how the lesson fits into the overall study of the subject, the Learning Aim, to give each class a clear direction and then the Learning Outcomes, to measure the progress of each student. The importance of literacy and numeracy is emphasised throughout.
Ofsted
“Learning activities are increasingly well-matched to pupils’ different levels of ability. As a result, pupils use their mathematical knowledge with growing confidence and fluency. Importantly, pupils who grasp concepts quickly are challenged to use their knowledge and skills to reason and solve complex problems.”
