Job overview

Yes we want a teacher to teach geography

But we don’t want an ordinary one

Because this is not an ordinary job!

Grove Academy is an exciting new all-through school, for 4 to 18 year olds, opening in September 2017 with Reception and Year 7. This is a unique opportunity to work with us to shape the Grove experience right from the beginning. We will be opening with 90 Reception children and 120 Year 7s. The school will grow each year to a full capacity of 1,940 including 6th form.

And that is where you could come in!

We want a teacher to teach geography but also to teach other subjects in a cross curricular way. We are looking for two teachers to work together in this way, alongside English, Maths and other specialists to deliver an exciting topic based curriculum.

Project based learning

To ensure a smooth transition from KS2 we will be delivering an innovative curriculum in KS3 which takes the best practises from both primary and secondary. It will mean that, alongside traditional subject teaching, we will extend aspects of our project ‘enterprise’ based curriculum into KS3 through cross curricular topic work. This will be developed via enquiry and ‘big questions’ to enable pupils, to place their learning within a real life context with concrete experiences. We will work closely with local businesses and organisations to ensure that our pupils leave Grove Academy with the skills and character that employers seek.

What can we offer you?

  • A place where you will feel valued for your hard work
  • Experiences you cannot get anywhere else
  • A chance to blur the lines and learn from the best practices in primary and secondary phases
  • Work with us to create innovative CPD packages because we want to invest in you
  • Grove Academy is an outward facing school, keen to learn from others and research, so providing networking opportunities for staff at all levels is important to us.
  • As the school grows so will the leadership pathways available to suitable candidates because our philosophy is to ‘grow our own’ where possible

We are looking for a teacher who:

  • Can see how they can develop their subject through projects with real outcomes
  • Able to demonstrate they share are passions and vision for this unique all-through school
  • Is excited by the chance to be with us at the beginning of this amazing journey
  • Recognises they need to be flexible as the school grows

Can you think outside of the box and see this as a fantastic opportunity to help us create a magical curriculum? If so …. Grove Academy is the place for you!

Grove Academy is the first all-through school to open in Slough and provides opportunity and education for 4 to 16 year olds, underpinned by high-quality teaching and learning and a common assessment framework. This continuity ensures that we can avoid the dips in performance associated with transition from one school to another.

As one school we are able to teach subjects to our younger children via specialist subject teachers, such as modern foreign languages and PE. We can provide pastoral care for children in challenging circumstances by offering a ‘joined-up’ strategy and support families more consistently over a longer time.

Our Vision, Aims & Ethos:

Grove Academy is a school where every child can feel welcome, successful and included. We want our pupils to:

· Be responsible, fully active citizens who are kind to one another, ready to learn, know how to keep themselves safe and are proud of their achievements

· Develop the confidence to participate in decision making, and have a creative input across the three areas of family well-being, public service and contribution to the economy

· Engage in a curriculum which will encourage problem solving, critical reflection, research and challenge

· Leave school confident in their ability to succeed and able to successfully access the  world of work or further/higher education

· Be able to learn new skills and engage in business markets that no one is yet able to define

· Be the future leaders of our society

· Recognise the importance of creativity and innovation to their future lives
