Ashville College is seeking to recruit a German Language Assistant to join its very strong Modern Foreign Languages Department. The role provides an excellent opportunity for someone considering a career in teaching.  

The Assistant will join a thriving German department, with a history of strong results at GCSE and A Level.  They will work with individual pupils and groups, preparing them for oral exams and supporting them in their studies. The successful candidate will be a well-qualified native German speaker with a keen interest in the German language and culture. 

Applicants must be educated at least to the final stage of their own secondary school system, (e.g. A-Level, IB, Baccalaureate or equivalent). Some previous teaching experience is desirable, although not essential. More important is a willingness to become fully involved in the Ashville community and to support pupils in their learning.

This role is offered on a fixed term contract from September 2020 to July 2021 and is for 18 hours per week.

Ashville College is a co-educational, independent school for day and boarding pupils aged 2–18. The college, set in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, comprises a pre-school, prep school and senior school with pupil numbers totaling around 870, 170 of whom are in the sixth form and 100 are boarders. The school is a registered charity, administered by Ashville College Trustees.

Ashville College was founded in 1877 as a boarding school for boys by the United Methodist Free Church. Expansion over the decades culminated in a merger with Elmfield College, Harrogate, in the 1930s, by which time Ashville was the largest private school in the north of England.   The most significant development came in 1982 when the school become co-educational.
