Mission Statement

Established as a centre of Catholic Lifelong Learning serving Oxford and South Oxfordshire, we the students, staff and governors of St. Gregory the Great, Oxford, seek to develop as a community of faith, where Catholic beliefs and values can grow.

We aim to serve each other, the Church, parents, and the wider community. We strive to create and cultivate an atmosphere where each person is inspired, encouraged and supported to the highest levels of educational achievement. Our school aims to ensure that all are able to realise their aspirations, take their responsibilities seriously, respect themselves and others, and grow in love of Christ.

Our Goals

• Faith
To affirm the educational process as a Christian journey, by helping people to grow as followers of Christ and foster each other’s faith in all that they do.

• Achievement
To provide the best teaching resources and technology available and to create a physical and emotional environment in which excellence can thrive and pupils have the opportunity to achieve their full personal potential.

• Worship
To celebrate our faith, by creating structures and encouraging attitudes that will make prayer and liturgy highly valued, with all members of the community becoming involved.

• People
To recruit, retain and nurture outstanding teaching and support staff. We also aim to form structures and systems of pastoral care which make personal support, advice and spiritual development easily available to everyone, in an atmosphere of mutual trust.

• Community
To belong to, and work with, the Catholic community in Oxford and South Oxfordshire, along with the local community of all faiths. We will promote the idea of the school as a partner with the community, in terms of education, sporting and charitable activities, practising an outward-looking attitude to all, especially parents and local parishes. Our school will prepare our students to become responsible citizens.

To develop programmes of study that actively reflect Catholic teaching and values and provide the opportunity for pupils to reach the levels of personal achievement to which they aspire.


Ethos Statement

This school was founded by, and is part of, the Catholic Church. The school shall be conducted in accordance with the provision of the Education Acts and subject thereto, in accordance with:

• the provisions of the Instrument of Government;

• the provisions of these Articles and any Rules or Bye-Laws made thereunder;

• the trust deed of the Archdiocese of Birmingham;

• the teachings and canon law of the Roman Catholic Church; and at all times the school is to serve as a witness to the Catholic Faith in Our Lord Jesus Christ.

Acts of collective worship shall be in accordance with the rites, practices, discipline and liturgical norms of the Catholic Church.

The form and content of religious education provided shall be determined from time to time by the Governing Body and shall be in accordance with the teaching, discipline and particular norms of the Catholic Church.
